Applied Physics - Computer Science

The BS in Applied Physics allows students to combine the BS in Physics with a concentration in biochemistry, computer science, or engineering. The curriculum includes electives in humanities and social science to give the student a general background to supplement training as a specialist.

Community Health
Community Health majors learn about the biological, social, and behavioral factors affecting public health, and examine the ethical and legal issues in modern-day health care. You’ll study drug and alcohol abuse, the sexual health life cycle, and chronic and communicable diseases, and learn how to assess individual and community health needs so you can plan, implement, and evaluate community health programs.

The Master of Arts (MA) in Industrial/Organizational Psychology at Hofstra University prepares you for career advancement across a number of fields dealing with workplace productivity and behaviors, including human resources, training, management, consulting, coaching, and organization development. Research design, statistics, and psychology provide the foundation for advanced study in selection training, performance appraisal, worker motivation, and organization development. At Hofstra you will also gain valuable hands-on experience through internships at business and public agencies. Full-time students finish in as little as two years.

American Studies

American Studies at Hofstra University is an interdisciplinary program for undergraduates looking forward to graduate work and careers in public service, law, higher education, and other fields associated with the social sciences and humanities.

The American Studies program is intensive and extensive; intensive because America is the focus of the program, and extensive because students become proficient in many academic disciplines. Courses in English, history, philosophy, and political science are all integral to the program

Students in this program combine the early childhood/childhood education major with an arts or science co-major from either Hofstra College of Liberal Arts and Sciences or the DeMatteis School of Engineering and Applied Science.

We recommend you choose a co-major in an academic discipline that could also be taught on the secondary level. If you major in an area like English, History, Mathematics, Foreign Language, or one of the sciences, you may be able to apply directly to New York state for additional certification in secondary education in that subject area.

The study of sociology applies scientific theory to get to the root of how societies work and why they don't, and uses scientific tools to study and find solutions to problems such as gender and racial inequities, homelessness, poverty, and gun violence.

Are you drawn to math and numbers? Do you like to solve problems using data and value activities that follow routines and procedures? Then you should apply your analytical mindset and pursue a career in accounting.
