Bioengineering

Bachelor of Science in Bioengineering students concentrate in one of three areas: Biomechanics, Bioelectricity, or Pre-Med. You'll first build a foundation in universal engineering theories, mathematics, and the physical and life sciences, before moving on to courses in your area of interest:

The Bachelor of Science is appropriate for students planning graduate studies in biology and professional pursuits in the fields of biology, medicine or higher education. The BS has an options requirement – areas of specialized learning. Choose from Cell and Molecular Biology; Ecology and Evolution; Marine Biology; Pre-Medical, Pre-Dental and Pre-Veterinary Studies; and Secondary Education.

Biology - Cell and Molecular Biology

The Bachelor of Arts is designed to give students a comprehensive understanding of biology and a strong liberal arts foundation. It is ideal for students planning to pursue graduate studies in another area, such as business, K-12 education, engineering or law.

The Maurice A. Deane School of Law at Hofstra University established the LL.M. Program in Family Law in response to contemporary family law practice's increased demand for specialization and need for an interdisciplinary focus for resolving family issues. The only program of its kind in the eastern United States, and one of only three programs in the country, Hofstra Law's LL.M. Program in Family Law furthers Hofstra Law's commitment to developing skilled and compassionate family lawyers who have a thorough grounding in the issues central to the field - divorce, family violence, child custody, abuse, neglect, and support - as well as knowledge in related areas such as tax, contracts, real estate and partnership law, child psychology and treatment options.

The BACHELOR OF ARTS IN COMPUTER SCIENCE gives students a solid foundation in computer science. Fewer required courses in the major and more electives allow students to pursue minors and a second major in other departments. Students may pursue a general track or an individual track that has a sequence of two independent study courses specially designed in collaboration with a faculty member.

Networking and Cybersecurity

The concentration in Networking and Cybersecurity is aimed at educating students in the growing field of cybersecurity.  Security of data and computer systems is one of the most important topics in today's online world. Any application or system must have ways to prevent and protect from cyber attacks, to allow secure access and protection of data stored in distributed locations accessible online. Courses in this concentration offer a hands-on approach to learning networking, security and systems programming. All courses include a significant experiential component.

With the Master of Arts (MA) in Journalism at Hofstra University, you will develop advanced, multimedia story-telling skills and build a wide-ranging professional network through internships at the nation’s top media companies. Hofstra's award-winning faculty will help you establish a solid foundation of reporting skills and build a portfolio of work across all media – digital, broadcast, and print - through on-campus media outlets, including The Hofstra Chronicle, WRHU Radio, and the online news site, The Long Island Advocate. Students have the option to add a specialization in either Sports and Entertainment Journalism or Community and Investigative Journalism. No GRE is required, and scholarships are available for qualified candidates.

Offered by the Department of Marketing and International Business, the Master of Science in Marketing is designed to meet the demands of professionals who want to assume middle- and upper-level positions within the marketing function. An emphasis is placed on the design, integration, implementation, and review of marketing plans.

Objectives of the Master of Science in Marketing:

• To prepare students for middle- to upper-level positions within the marketing function at a variety of organizations.
• To develop marketing specialists who can understand and analyze marketplace dynamics, interpret consumer trends, and plan and execute marketing strategies.
• To emphasize the design, implementation, and review of comprehensive marketing plans across a variety of situations.

Classical Languages and Literatures

The concentration in Classical Languages and Literatures emphasizes language training in ancient Greek and/or Latin and provides the student with a strong background in classical literature and in related areas of study within classics – for example, ancient history, philosophy, art history, and the religious traditions of Greece and Rome and early Christianity.
