Computer Engineering

The BACHELOR of SCIENCE in COMPUTER ENGINEERING program is concerned with the design of hardware and software for computing devices and systems. Computer Engineering students take a rigorous set of courses in hardware and software related topics. Graduates with a degree in computer engineering typically secure jobs that involve the design of embedded systems, mobile devices, automotive sensing and control systems and biomedical devices to name a few. They are also capable of working in software roles such as software engineering and web and mobile development.

Web and Mobile Engineering

The concentration in Web and Mobile Engineering is aimed at educating students in the field of Web and mobile computer applications. This is a continually growing and changing field. Almost all computer applications must provide access on the Web and/or mobile devices. Courses in this concentration offer a hands-on approach to learning Web and mobile programming.

Theater Arts
For the student preparing for a career in the practice of theater as a performer, director, designer or technician. The BFA degree (in performance or production) is intended to provide a small, specialized group of such students with a high level of competence.

Learn how to question and analyze the social, legal, political, historical, and economic factors that influence the media industry -- and apply this in-depth knowledge to a variety of career paths or advance study in fields such as law, management, politics, and education.

Students in the Bachelor of Arts in Mass Media Studies program pursue one of three concentrations:

Political Communication

Students can choose a concentration in political communication to gain a deeper understanding of the role of effective communication in a diverse society. It is ideal for students interested in leadership positions in civic life or with social advocacy groups, as well as for those pursuing law school or graduate programs in public affairs.

Have a passion for helping people live longer, better lives? The field of health science gives you a deep understanding of the evolving challenges of modern health care, and provides a strong foundation for advanced  degrees in careers such as medicine, dentistry, veterinary sciences, physical therapy, and physician assistant studies.

In addition to biology, chemistry, and other natural sciences, your courses will focus on wellness, health promotion, and disease prevention, while examining the bioethical and legal issues facing the global health industry. Explore issues of interest to you through dozens of elective courses on topics such as aging and long-term care, violence in children/families, mental health, environmental health, and grant funding and proposal development. You will also complete a clinical internship.

The Bachelor of Arts is designed to give students a comprehensive understanding of biology and a strong liberal arts foundation. It is ideal for students planning to pursue graduate studies in another area, such as business, K-12 education, engineering or law.

Students may major in biology or urban ecology, and specializations are available in pre-health, cell/molecular biology, as well as marine and freshwater biology, ecology, secondary education and conservation biology, among others.

Understanding religions and the diversity of people’s beliefs and practices is crucial for comprehending global realities, learning to bridge differences, and succeeding in any career path.  If you choose to major in religion at Hofstra University, you will learn to think critically about life's big questions and religions’ impact on everyday life, as you prepare for a vibrant career in health care, law, international business, journalism, nonprofits, the arts, or other professions. Mathematical Economics
Economics is woven into the fabric of our society. It is the engine that drives and shapes public policy, determining how individuals and families live and work, how business and industry operate – in short, how the world works. If you’re curious about people and human behavior, have an interest in history and political science, and enjoy the structure and reasoning of mathematical-style analysis, you’d do well majoring in economics.

Biochemistry prepares students to pursue advanced degrees in forensic science, biochemistry, chemistry, pharmacology, neuroscience, and molecular biology, as well as for medical, dental, and pharmacy schools, and physician assistant programs.

German

The German major provides, in a systematic fashion through its levels of instruction, a solid foundation in German grammar and vocabulary, comprehension and conversational skills (idioms and slang!), and German-language literature and culture in general. The literary focus reinforces the grounding in the nuances of the language and culture in compelling historical contexts up to the present, including the catastrophes of the first and second world wars and the Holocaust, the Cold War division through the Berlin Wall, and German Reunification in 1990.

The German major prepares students for study abroad or independent research in German-speaking countries (i.e., Germany, Austria, Switzerland) and for graduate study in other disciplines that encourage the acquisition of the German language beyond German Studies.
