Applied Physics - Biochemistry

The BS in Applied Physics allows students to combine the BS in Physics with a concentration in biochemistry, computer science, or engineering. The curriculum includes electives in humanities and social science to give the student a general background to supplement training as a specialist.

Anthropology
If you have an innate curiosity about human behavior, social organization, and cultural diversity, Hofstra's BA in Anthropology may be the right program for you. In addition to our concentration in Archaeology, we are one of few schools in the New York metropolitan area to offer a minor in the emerging field of Food Studies.

Early Childhood/Childhood Education

Students in this program combine the early childhood/childhood education major with an arts or science co-major from either Hofstra College of Liberal Arts and Sciences or the DeMatteis School of Engineering and Applied Science.

We recommend you choose a co-major in an academic discipline that could also be taught on the secondary level. If you major in an area like English, History, Mathematics, Foreign Language, or one of the sciences, you may be able to apply directly to New York state for additional certification in secondary education in that subject area.

Students apply to this program in their sophomore year and begin the program in their junior year.

Civil engineers design and supervise large construction projects, including roads, buildings, airports, tunnels, dams, bridges, and systems for water supply and sewage treatment. Many civil engineers hold supervisory or administrative positions ranging from supervisor of a construction site to city engineer. Others work in design, construction, research, and teaching.

Designed to produce graduates qualified as computer software and hardware developers, and able to serve as information security officers, penetration testers, and network administrators.

This program takes a balanced approach in trying to understand how to make developed countries more sustainable while also addressing the sustainability crisis in the developing world. With a focus on entrepreneurship, community development and sustainability management, the program teaches students to be part of the emerging green economy. Work one-on-one with a faculty mentor, and develop a curriculum based on your own interests.

Public Policy and Public Service
If you are interested in the political process, policy, and public service, the major in public policy and public service combines all of those areas in one degree. You will develop a deep understanding of modern policy challenges, as well as the leadership skills to meet them.

Art History
This degree offers classes in the study of art and architecture, from cave paintings to new media installations. Students learn about medieval art and works of the Italian Renaissance, the Romantic, Baroque, and Gothic Ages. They learn about artistic movements and how the study of art highlights issues related to politics, culture, and religion.
