Fine Arts

This degree is for students who may be interested in a double major in areas such as education, marketing, computer science, or film. Students have the option of a general fine arts degree, or a specialization in design, painting, or sculpture-industrial design.

Biology - Ecology and Evolution

The Bachelor of Science is appropriate for students planning graduate studies in biology and professional pursuits in the fields of biology, medicine or higher education. The BS has an options requirement – areas of specialized learning. Choose from Cell and Molecular Biology; Ecology and Evolution; Marine Biology; Pre-Medical, Pre-Dental and Pre-Veterinary Studies; and Secondary Education.

Marketing
Offered by the Department of Marketing and International Business, the Master of Science in Marketing is designed to meet the demands of professionals who want to assume middle- and upper-level positions within the marketing function. An emphasis is placed on the design, integration, implementation, and review of marketing plans.

Objectives of the Master of Science in Marketing:

• To prepare students for middle- to upper-level positions within the marketing function at a variety of organizations.
• To develop marketing specialists who can understand and analyze marketplace dynamics, interpret consumer trends, and plan and execute marketing strategies.
• To emphasize the design, implementation, and review of comprehensive marketing plans across a variety of situations.

Labor Studies
Around the world, from the factory to the office to the internet, today's workplace is changing rapidly. These changes are dramatically affecting not only the ways that we work, but also the basic relationships among workers, between workers and labor unions, and between labor and management. Labor studies offers students a broad background in the multiple perspectives on – and different analytical approaches to – job and pay issues in an international context.

The BA in Philosophy is a broad-based liberal arts degree that is good preparation for a wide range of careers including law, journalism, business, medicine, cognitive science, neuroscience, medicine, and computer science. Students pursuing this degree can pick up a minor or concentration that focuses on law, applied ethics, cognitive science or business.

The BS in Chemistry equips our graduates to work as lab technicians and chemistry sales/technicians. It is also designed for students who plan to pursue graduate studies in patent law, chemistry, materials science, and other fields.

The Department of Chemistry's program for the BS major in chemistry is accredited by the American Chemical Society if the appropriate options are selected (see below). A student completing this course of study will be awarded a certificate from the Society.

Understanding religions and the diversity of people’s beliefs and practices is crucial for comprehending global realities, learning to bridge differences, and succeeding in any career path.  If you choose to major in religion at Hofstra University, you will learn to think critically about life's big questions and religions’ impact on everyday life, as you prepare for a vibrant career in health care, law, international business, journalism, nonprofits, the arts, or other professions. Hofstra's religion program pairs academic study with real-world application to your chosen professional path.

As a religion major you will:

• Develop and apply critical and analytical skills to connect the role of religion with societal values and norms
• Recognize the role religion plays in public life, especially as it shapes social, political, and economic views
• Experience and understand how religions interact with and influence one another
• Distinguish the many forms of human religious expression and rituals, from ancient times to the modern era

The major concentration enables students to establish a strong base of specialized knowledge in one of the areas of study represented in the Zarb School of Business. This complements the skills in the various functional areas of business, as well as the professional leadership and management orientation.

This concentration provides a musical environment that helps prepare students for a performing career in today’s diverse world of professional music. It builds knowledge of composition, arranging, improvisation, technology, history, and business.
