Sociology
If you are interested in human behavior, inspired by social justice and activism, and curious about how cultural institutions and societal structures shape our lives, you'll find a home in sociology.

The study of sociology applies scientific theory to get to the root of how societies work and why they don't, and uses scientific tools to study and find solutions to problems such as gender and racial inequities, homelessness, poverty, and gun violence.

Our robust entrepreneurship program includes courses in global entrepreneurship, entrepreneurial vision, small business management, law for entrepreneurs, digital marketing, consumer behavior, and social entrepreneurship.

Entrepreneurship majors learn how to think creatively and collaboratively, and develop the skills to launch a new enterprise, including crafting a business model that incorporates financing, marketing, human resources management, and other disciplines.

The BACHELOR OF ARTS IN COMPUTER SCIENCE gives students a solid foundation in computer science. Fewer required courses in the major and more electives allow students to pursue minors and a second major in other departments. Students may pursue a general track or an individual track that has a sequence of two independent study courses specially designed in collaboration with a faculty member.

Gaming and Graphics

The Concentration in Gaming and Graphics is aimed at educating students in the design and development of video games and game engines.  This is a very exciting and growing industry. Video games have permeated all segments of population and industry from entertainment to educational. All courses in this concentration include a significant experiential component.

Computer Engineering

Computer Engineering students at Hofstra learn to design hardware and software for the computing devices and systems that serve as the foundation for nearly every critical institution in society. Indeed, few degrees are more immediately valuable in today’s workplace. Our graduates move into a variety of well-paying jobs, from software engineering, operating systems development, and the design of hardware systems and complex networks, to creating and managing mobile devices, sensing and control systems, biomedical devices, and more.

Accounting
In most states, candidates for the CPA examination are required to have completed 150 semester hours of course work in order to be eligible for licensure. New York state currently requires 69 s.h. in business, of which 33 must be in accounting. This program, which is offered by the Department of Accounting, Taxation and Legal Studies in Business, should enable students who have taken 39 undergraduate credits in business from an accredited institution, including at least six credits in accounting, to meet this requirement. Students without the equivalent of 39 credits in business are advised to consider the MBA in Professional Accountancy, which will satisfy all educational eligibility requirements for licensure. Students are advised to check with other state boards of accountancy for eligibility requirements outside of New York state.

Cybersecurity - Management and Policy Concentration
The MS in Cybersecurity (Technology Concentration) is intended for students who wish to obtain both technical and managerial skills in the area of security and privacy for enterprise data, systems and networks. Graduates of the concentration will be able to be:

• Design and implement software and protocols for building secure computational systems.
• Evaluate security architectures to reduce the risk of cyber-attacks, limit damage from intrusion, and recover rapidly from them.
• Create and use effective tools for security operations, security engineering, and vulnerability management.

As a student in our finance program, you will learn how to assess risk and use financial modeling to game out different strategies and scenarios. You will develop an understanding of how economic policy moves markets and drives values. And you will study and learn how individuals make decisions about money and investing, and how those decisions affect big-picture outcomes.
