Students pursuing the Master of Music in Conducting are given extensive podium time and are mentored by dedicated and active conducting faculty. Upon graduation students are prepared to:

Geography

Geography gives us an understanding of the world. It demonstrates how the physical and human systems on our planet work and connect to maintain life.

Geographers have specific and valuable skills to tackle important societal challenges facing our planet. Climate change, population pressures, geopolitical conflicts, and natural disasters all need the expertise of geographers.

Geographers are citizens of the world. When solving problems, they value diversity, inclusiveness, and international perspectives.

Typical careers for a geographer include:

• Cartographer
• Planner (urban and environmental)
• Location Analyst
• Geographic Information Systems Specialist

The Individualized sequence of the Interdisciplinary Studies major allows a student, with the help of a faculty sponsor, to design a specialized program of study not otherwise offered by the University. This is intended for the student whose specific interests cannot be accommodated within existing programs.

Some topics chosen by students include Classical Civilization, Three Dimensional Design, and International Public Relations. The Individualized sequence is typically a second or auxiliary major but may be proposed as a primary major.

Biology - Plant Biology
Majors selecting this sequence receive broad training in Plant Biology. This sequence is designed for students seeking jobs with industries, the government and nonprofit organizations working with plants.

Chemistry Teacher Education
Illinois State's rate of teacher graduation places it among the Top 10 educators of teachers in the nation. Nearly 1 of every 7 teachers in the classrooms of Illinois' public schools holds a degree from Illinois State University. Approximately one-half of all secondary school teachers in downstate Illinois currently hold teaching degrees from Illinois State.

The demand for chemistry teachers is great in both Illinois and across the nation. We need more beginning chemistry teachers over the next 10 years than teacher education programs can currently produce. Illinois State's Chemistry Teacher Education program is fully accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) and the National Science Teachers Association (NSTA). The Department of Chemistry is one of the nation's top producers of degrees certified by the American Chemical Society.

Psychology
The major in Psychology requires a capstone experience, which provides students with challenging opportunities to apply their knowledge of psychology to research, teaching, or practice endeavors. Students can work with faculty in the classroom or their research labs, or study specific topics of the student's interest.

The Department of Psychology has also established an extensive internship program that gives students opportunities to apply their knowledge in a work setting in the local community. The Research Apprenticeship Program, Undergraduate Teaching Assistantship Program, and Internship Program are designed to give students practical experiences beyond their academic coursework.
