Fashion Design and Merchandising
The Fashion Design and Merchandising (FDM) program at Illinois State University puts your designs on the runway, connects you with professionals nationwide, teaches courses in all areas of design and merchandising through industry-level Design Studio and Textile Lab facilities, and inspires you with the 2,000 piece Lois Jett Historic Costume Collection.

FDM courses include Textiles, Fashion Trend and Industry Analysis, Advanced Textiles, Clothing and Behavior, Economics of Fashion, Apparel Product Development, Apparel Product Analysis, and Fashion Promotion. Within the FDM program, you can select from two different emphasis options:

• The Fashion Merchandising option which includes additional courses in retail buying
• The Fashion Design and Product Development option which includes additional courses in draping and flat pattern making

Geology
Geology studies how the Earth works and its history. It’s a field-based science that takes you outside the classroom and into nature. It offers plenty of variety by incorporating principles of chemistry, physics, biology, and math.

Professional geologists study earth processes like landslides, earthquakes, and rock formation. Understanding these activities is essential to sustaining life on Earth.

The Geology program at Illinois State gives you a strong foundation and awareness of these processes. Our traditional approach to teaching prepares you for graduate school or a career. Once you complete our program, you can get licensed and begin a career in the environmental, energy, and minerals industries.

The Individualized sequence of the Interdisciplinary Studies major allows a student, with the help of a faculty sponsor, to design a specialized program of study not otherwise offered by the University. This is intended for the student whose specific interests cannot be accommodated within existing programs.

Some topics chosen by students include Classical Civilization, Three Dimensional Design, and International Public Relations. The Individualized sequence is typically a second or auxiliary major but may be proposed as a primary major.

The Agribusiness sequence is designed to advance students' knowledge of the theories of agribusiness management and the science of agricultural production and their application to decisions made by agribusiness managers. The academic content of this sequence concentrates on agricultural economics and business management subjects.

The Wonsook Kim School of Art offers a comprehensive list of sequence options for a student interested in Studio Arts. The following are offered as areas of specialization: Ceramics, Drawing, Expanded Media, Glass, Printmaking, Painting, Photography, Sculpture, Video, and Wood / Metal Design.

Following a first year foundations curriculum, students can choose a sequence within an individual studio. Within each sequence, faculty are actively engaged in introducing students to various technical skills and ideas specific to that discipline. The cohesive sequencing of courses within each studio area allows the student to build skills and knowledge towards a highly sophisticated level of work in that field of exploration.

The Business Administration major prepares students for a wide range of jobs within a variety of industries. It provides the general skills that can transfer into a variety of career choices. Focused on the management and operational skills that are crucial to running a business, a business administration degree will prepare students for any number of entry-level positions in a variety of organizations, such as financial institutions, professional firms, medical clinics/hospitals, government, and non-profit agencies.

Criminal Justice Sciences

• The criminal justice program at Illinois State examines policing, courts, and corrections. We do this with a social science point of view. As a student, you'll explore human behavior and take an in-depth look at the issues and circumstances that lead to crime. This gives you a well-rounded perspective and prepares you to be a leader for positive change.    
• You'll also gain all the skills you need to be successful in your career. We'll teach you how to interview, develop programs, promote community well-being, and analyze crime hotspots.

Studio Arts Ceramics

The Department of Mathematics offers graduate-level courses in statistics leading to a Master of Science degree in mathematics focusing on statistics. The graduate program offers students the opportunity for further training in Applied Statistics—training that positions them to pursue additional graduate studies or jobs in many fields.

Special Education - Specialist in Low Vision and Blindness

• Teachers of children with visual impairments work with learners who are blind or who have low vision, from preschool through high school.
• There is a severe shortage of teachers in this area. Many students in our Low Vision and Blindness sequence do not have difficulty finding a job after they graduate.
