The School of Biological Sciences has both a Ph.D. program and a master's degree program in which students can perform thesis research on bioenergy-related projects.

For students interested in taking the master's degree track, the School of Biological Sciences offers an M.S. sequence in Bioenergy Sciences, which provides students with the background to conduct thesis research focusing on questions related to biological and/or environmental aspects of using/engineering plants and microbes for the production of bio-based fuels. Ultimately, students will be prepared for pursuing higher degrees or entering professions related to bioenergy.

Studio Arts Expanded Media
The Wonsook Kim School of Art offers a comprehensive list of sequence options for a student interested in Studio Arts. The following are offered as areas of specialization: Ceramics, Drawing, Expanded Media, Glass, Printmaking, Painting, Photography, Sculpture, Video, and Wood / Metal Design.

Following a first year foundations curriculum, students can choose a sequence within an individual studio. Within each sequence, faculty are actively engaged in introducing students to various technical skills and ideas specific to that discipline. The cohesive sequencing of courses within each studio area allows the student to build skills and knowledge towards a highly sophisticated level of work in that field of exploration.

The Financial Economics sequence provides students training in the financial theory of the firm, financial markets and institutions to complement their training in applied economics analysis. It is designed for students who have an interest in employment opportunities in the financial sector such as investment and commercial banks, economic and financial asset management companies, and consulting firms, or who are interested in pursuing a Ph.D. degree.

Music - Composition/Theory Emphasis

International Business is an interdisciplinary program, combining core courses in general business and foreign languages with advanced courses in international business. Network and Telecommunications Management
Network and telecommunications systems are the backbone of the information age. They include systems we use every day, such as the internet, text messaging, and watching TV. Their main goal is to send a message from one point to another without losing or changing the message.

Professionals in the field design and manage networks. They keep up with technology trends and adapt networks to meet current needs.

The Network and Telecommunications Management major studies the theory and application of cutting-edge technology. We also cover policy issues dealing with data, image, video, and voice delivery. Understanding these policies is essential when designing and managing networks.

Master of Music in Performance students are afforded intensive applied study with a professionally accomplished artist-teacher. Performance degrees are offered in all orchestral and band instruments, as well as in piano, guitar, and voice.

    The MM in Performance prepares you for a career in:

English
The English Studies major is based on a broad model of interdisciplinary study in the fields that make up English Studies. The Department of English offers a full curriculum of courses in eight disciplines, including literature and cultural studies, children's literature, linguistics, rhetoric and composition, technical communications, creative writing, the Teaching of English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL), and Publishing.

Students learn how to write well, read critically, develop investigative research skills, working hands-on in digital environments and social networking, and frequently win some of the most prestigious awards at Illinois State, such as the Bone Scholarship.
