Theatre Teacher Education
The Theatre Teacher Education sequence at Illinois State University is dedicated to preparing highly qualified teachers/artists to meet the challenges of education in the secondary school system.

Art Teacher Education
The overall goal of the Art Teacher Education sequence in the Wonsook Kim School of Art is to prepare the next generation of art educators who promote a high level of competence and integrity in the practice of their profession. The Art Teacher Education sequence prepares students to teach art in the elementary, middle, and secondary schools.

Participants are involved in both academic and practical experiences throughout the sequence of coursework. These experiences are selected to prepare future art teachers to relate to the diverse needs and interests of children and adolescents. Contemporary philosophic issues such as visual culture, post-structuralism, and postmodernism are addressed. Also stressed are creative and critical thinking, studio techniques, technology, understanding the learner, and developing skills to become an effective teacher.

Geographers have specific and valuable skills to tackle important societal challenges facing our planet. Climate change, population pressures, geopolitical conflicts, and natural disasters all need the expertise of geographers.

Geographers are citizens of the world. When solving problems, they value diversity, inclusiveness, and international perspectives.

Typical careers for a geographer include:

Criminal Justice Sciences

• Earning a criminal justice degree empowers you to make positive contributions to society.
• The field offers plenty of variety that leads to an exciting and engaging career. Professionals enforce laws, protect citizens, rehabilitate offenders, help victims, and develop programs to help prevent crime.
• The criminal justice program at Illinois State examines policing, courts, and corrections. We do this with a social science point of view. As a student, you'll explore human behavior and take an in-depth look at the issues and circumstances that lead to crime. This gives you a well-rounded perspective and prepares you to be a leader for positive change.    
• You'll also gain all the skills you need to be successful in your career. We'll teach you how to interview, develop programs, promote community well-being, and analyze crime hotspots.

The Wonsook Kim School of Art offers a comprehensive list of sequence options for a student interested in Studio Arts. The following are offered as areas of specialization: Ceramics, Drawing, Expanded Media, Glass, Printmaking, Painting, Photography, Sculpture, Video, and Wood / Metal Design.

Following a first year foundations curriculum, students can choose a sequence within an individual studio. Within each sequence, faculty are actively engaged in introducing students to various technical skills and ideas specific to that discipline. The cohesive sequencing of courses within each studio area allows the student to build skills and knowledge towards a highly sophisticated level of work in that field of exploration.

Interior Design
The Interior Design major prepares students to design innovative, functional, supportive and responsible interior environments that positively impact the quality of life. The curriculum develops students' skills and knowledge in color and design, drafting, space planning, building and interior systems, materials and finishes, historical interiors, building and barrier-free codes, and Auto-CAD. The needs of special populations and the mandates that regulate the field of interior design are emphasized.

Illinois State's Interior Design program is accredited by the Council of Interior Design Accreditation (CIDA). This prepares students for entry-level Interior Design practice, for advanced study, and to apply for membership in professional Interior Design organizations. The BS or BA in Interior Design granted by Illinois State University meets the educational requirement for eligibility to sit for the National Council for Interior Design Qualification Examination (NCIDQ Exam).

Music Therapy
The Music Therapy sequence provides academic content and clinical experiences related to competencies outlined by the American Music Therapy Association.

Students who complete the Music Therapy degree are eligible to sit for the national board certification exam to obtain the credential MT-BC (Music Therapist - Board Certified), which is necessary for professional practice.

The sociology field is broad and our program reflects that. We'll give you a solid foundation in data analysis and research methods to prepare you to work in a data-driven society. From there, what you study is up to you. You can choose to focus on areas of sociology that engage you and meet your goals.

We offer lots of opportunities for you to take a deep dive into your passion. In addition to a thesis, you can work one-on-one with faculty on research projects that make positive impacts in communities around the world.

Theatre Studies

The Theatre Studies major provides you with a broad-based, hands-on education in theatre within the context of a liberal arts degree. After completing a strong core of theatre courses, you have the flexibility to choose specialty courses based on your interests and career orientation in the following areas:

• Stage directing
• Playwriting
• Theatre history
• Creative drama and puppetry
• Integrated performance
• Theatre management
• Film studies

You’ll receive a well-rounded educational experience, from academic pursuit in history, criticism, dramaturgy, and theory, to creative participation in the performing arts.

The Business Education major at Illinois State University combines the solid foundation of a business degree with preparation needed to become a business and compter education teacher.  The program is the only K-12 Business Education program in the state, and the only dedicated business education program at a public institution.  There is a shortage of business teachers in the state.

The Business Education graduate is prepared to teach all business and information technology courses, including business, accounting, business law, information processing/keyboarding, computer applications, consumer economics, marketing, entrepreneurship, business communications, web design, digital media, and many more.
