Our graduate program gives you the opportunity to explore your favorite topics extensively. You can choose between a thesis option or a field of study option, both offering freedom to study what you’re most interested in. Mastering in history helps advance your educational and professional development. Our faculty is known for specializing in a wide range of backgrounds, geographic areas, periods and sub-fields of history. While you explore various historical topics that interest you, you can also take courses outside of the history department to help develop your own unique credentials.

Mathematics Teacher Education
As a student in the Mathematics Education program at Illinois State University, you will be challenged, tested, supported, and you will be rewarded.

You will be challenged to extend your knowledge and experience in mathematics through courses taken by students completing other sequences within the department's major, as well as through courses in education. You will become a mathematician, and you will become a teacher.

English - Publishing Studies
The Publishing Studies sequence is designed to prepare graduates for careers in all types of publishing. Undergraduate students interested in nonprofit presses, journals, and scholarly publications are well suited for this sequence.

Skillsets acquired by completing the sequence includes proofreading, editing, design and layout, marketing, advertising, permissions, graphic work, record keeping, archiving, and bulk/distribution mailing. By providing a broad work experience, students not only build their portfolios, but also enter the marketplace with valuable and current skills.

Information Systems - Systems Development
Systems Development is a master's sequence in Information Systems. The program is designed for students who are interested in integrating existing technologies to help businesses better manage their information. Most students choosing this sequence plan to pursue further studies in Information Systems or work as a programmer-analyst, systems developer, or project manager.

Studio Arts Video
The Wonsook Kim School of Art offers a comprehensive list of sequence options for a student interested in Studio Arts. The following are offered as areas of specialization: Ceramics, Drawing, Expanded Media, Glass, Printmaking, Painting, Photography, Sculpture, Video, and Wood / Metal Design.

Following a first year foundations curriculum, students can choose a sequence within an individual studio. Within each sequence, faculty are actively engaged in introducing students to various technical skills and ideas specific to that discipline. The cohesive sequencing of courses within each studio area allows the student to build skills and knowledge towards a highly sophisticated level of work in that field of exploration.

Cybersecurity
Cybersecurity professionals protect data in computers and networks from crimes such as hacking and data theft.

Illinois State’s Cybersecurity major focuses on security basics, cryptography, ethical hacking, security defenses, and forensics. It covers current tools and techniques, and managing security risks.

To be successful in these areas, you'll get a background in programming and networking as well as basic knowledge of computer hardware and systems software.

Creative Technologies
The Master of Science in Creative Technologies is a 39-hour interdisciplinary program in the Wonsook Kim College of Fine Arts that emphasizes theory, design, and practice in the application of computer technology to traditional art, music, and theatre disciplines with an emphasis on interactive media, sound design, digital music, and computer coding for arts applications.

The program provides critical training and experiences that prepare graduates for careers in digital and interactive media production including: front-end web development; video production; sound design for live performance, broadcast, and multimedia; digital music composition and production; and emerging arts disciplines where basic knowledge of coding is required. Graduates work for employers of all types including small businesses, government agencies, and corporations; and some are self-employed entrepreneurs.

The program is appropriate for students who have training in the arts, experience working with digital and interactive communication tools, or computer science with experience in the arts and interactive media. Many students have established careers in related fields and wish to enhance their knowledge of new technical tools and creative processes.

International Business
Illinois State University is the only public university in Illinois offering a major in International Business. If you have studied a foreign language in high school, if you want to major in business, if you are interested in the international expansion of business, then this is the right major for you!

International Business is an interdisciplinary program, combining core courses in general business and foreign languages with advanced courses in international business. Students choose a specific concentration from marketing, finance, insurance, management, business information systems, or accountancy. Advanced courses in business look not only at international activities in the different majors, but also at the way cultures affect business and the legal environments of different countries.

Biology - Molecular and Cellular Biology
The bachelor’s degree in Molecular and Cellular Biology provides a solid foundation in the life sciences for students seeking careers in medicine, government, or entry-level positions in biotechnology as well as the pharmaceutical industry.

The degree also serves as a basis for graduate studies in biology. While the degree may satisfy many requirements for professional and graduate programs, it is important to consult the admission requirements for a particular program as early as possible. Additional coursework may be taken as electives to support later postgraduate work.
