Mathematics - Statistics
Statistics is the science and art of making inferences from data, under conditions of uncertainty. The practice of Statistics requires not only the understanding of the statistical techniques, but also understanding of the problem requiring statistical analysis, whether it is in the liberal arts, the sciences, health sciences, or business.

The Food and Nutrition Management program at llinois State covers the broad field of nutrition with a special focus on the food and beverage industry, rather than science. The program combines business and management principles with food service and hospitality skills.

Music theory is the study of the inner workings of music composition. Students who enjoy improvising, learning about how music is put together, and digging deeper into the inner workings of the mechanics of music composition may be music theorists or composers.

Composition students with a theory emphasis learn how to write music as a way of understanding its structure from the inside out. They work one-on-one with our composition theory faculty to create original research in the area of music theory.

The Wonsook Kim School of Art offers a comprehensive list of sequence options for a student interested in Studio Arts. The following are offered as areas of specialization: Ceramics, Drawing, Expanded Media, Glass, Printmaking, Painting, Photography, Sculpture, Video, and Wood / Metal Design.

Following a first year foundations curriculum, students can choose a sequence within an individual studio. Within each sequence, faculty are actively engaged in introducing students to various technical skills and ideas specific to that discipline. The cohesive sequencing of courses within each studio area allows the student to build skills and knowledge towards a highly sophisticated level of work in that field of exploration.

Economics is the study of how to critically evaluate problems and make well-reasoned decisions. As such, the Economics major is particularly well suited to prepare students for the career challenges in the 21st century by helping them develop important skills, including the ability to apply a general framework of analysis for solving real-world problems, conduct mathematical and statistical analysis, work with data to address specific issues, and effectively communicate, in written and oral form, with others.

A student can earn either a B.S. or a B.A. degree in Economics. The major offers students the flexibility to select a set of courses that simultaneously satisfy the requirements of the major while focusing on a specific area such as business or pre-law. The curriculum is highlighted by a senior project required of Economics majors that gives each student an opportunity to work with an individual faculty member on a research project selected by the student.

The study of philosophy provides the opportunity to address these and other profound topics and questions in a critical and systematic way.

The Accounting - Business Information Systems sequence is designed to prepare students for entry level accounting positions requiring significant training in business information systems. This preparation is particularly valuable in accounting consulting positions, certain auditing positions, and in many progressive industrial positions.

The program is designed for students who are interested in integrating existing technologies to help businesses better manage their information.
