The Spanish program at Illinois State University takes pride in offering small classes where students receive individualized attention and training in all aspects of language proficiency. Just as important, our undergraduates develop critical thinking skills and appreciation for diversity as they take courses in Hispanic cultures and literatures, as well as Spanish linguistics.

Our slate of offerings includes a sturdy base of fundamentals, on which students build their own program from a selection of electives of most interest to them. We also provide community-based service learning experiences and opportunities to participate in award-winning student organizations like our Spanish Club and Sigma Delta Pi, Illinois State's chapter of the National Collegiate Hispanic Honor Society.

The Applied Community and Economic Development (ACED) sequence is an interdisciplinary program that enables those who are passionate about social change through service to take their careers to the next level. The sequence is designed for returned Peace Corps Volunteers and students with other development experiences (e.g., AmeriCorps, nonprofit work). The Stevenson Center for Community and Economic Development coordinates these programs for Fellows, who spend an intense year on campus followed by an 11-month paid professional practice. ACED sequence students have a graduate assistantship in the fall and spring semesters on campus prior to field work.  Students pursuing this sequence receive a solid and relevant educational opportunity to pursue careers in community and economic development in the United States and around the world.

Accounting - Business Information Systems
The Accounting - Business Information Systems sequence is designed to prepare students for entry level accounting positions requiring significant training in business information systems. This preparation is particularly valuable in accounting consulting positions, certain auditing positions, and in many progressive industrial positions.

English Teacher Education
The English Teacher Education program (ETE) is an English Studies sequence in the Department of English (College of Arts and Sciences) at Illinois State University. Admitted teacher candidates will prepare to become effective secondary (grades 9-12) English Language Arts (ELA) teachers in diverse classrooms. Coursework in the 46-hour major develops content knowledge and discipline-specific methods by addressing how theory and research support best practices in integrated language arts skills pedagogy.

Teacher candidates develop and apply instructional delivery skills through clinical experiences conducted at University High School (Illinois State's on-campus laboratory school) and a variety of public school classrooms: rural, suburban, and urban.

Music - Music Conducting

Students pursuing the Master of Music in Conducting are given extensive podium time and are mentored by dedicated and active conducting faculty. Upon graduation students are prepared to:

• Seek their doctoral degree
• Conduct school, church or community ensembles
• Conduct at a community college or university

The curriculum includes:

• Applied conducting
• Analysis for conductors
• Research
• Practicum in conducting
• Electives chosen from courses like non-degree recitals, music technology, music history, music theory, music education, music therapy, music business, jazz studies, ensembles, and non-music courses

Illinois State's Master of Fine Arts (MFA) in Directing program cultivates the next generation of creative leaders in the American theatre.

The Directing program accepts a select group of advanced students who have demonstrated the potential to succeed in long-term careers as professional directors. We nurture the emergence of a unique and personal aesthetic for each director, while at the same time fostering an appreciation for the skills and technique required to achieve sustainable success in the profession. Accepted candidates will demonstrate curiosity about their world and the capacity to lead with empathy.

The goals of the program challenge students to:

• Develop an individualized aesthetic that speaks to today's world
• Communicate effectively with performers
• Collaborate openly and creatively with a design team
• Analyze plays from multiple genres
• Embrace poetic language and rhetorical device in classical plays
• Master staging techniques for multiple space configurations
• Work with professional rigor

Because student needs and interests vary, there is flexibility in the Mathematics master's degree program at Illinois State University. In addition to allowing students to get a strong general background in mathematics, our program allows students to concentrate in:

• Secondary mathematics education
• Atatistics
• Actuarial science
• Biomathematics
• Preparation for teaching at a community college level

The Entrepreneurship and Small Business Management sequence offers a unique learning experience to students who aspire to start businesses or obtain employment in growth-oriented small businesses. The program will help students identify career options in small business, expand their knowledge of entrepreneurship, and develop venture management skills and techniques.

Athletic trainers are highly qualified, multi-skilled health care professionals who render service or treatment under the direction of, or in collaboration with, a physician in accordance with the state’s statutes, rules, and regulations. As part of the health care team, services provided by athletic trainers include patient care in five domains of clinical practice: prevention; clinical evaluation and diagnosis; immediate care; treatment and rehabilitation; and organization and professional health and well-being.

The Master of Athletic Training is designed for individuals who did not earn an undergraduate degree in Athletic Training or did not earn certification as an Athletic Trainer in their undergraduate major.
