Psychology
The major in Psychology requires a capstone experience, which provides students with challenging opportunities to apply their knowledge of psychology to research, teaching, or practice endeavors. Students can work with faculty in the classroom or their research labs, or study specific topics of the student's interest.

The Department of Psychology has also established an extensive internship program that gives students opportunities to apply their knowledge in a work setting in the local community. The Research Apprenticeship Program, Undergraduate Teaching Assistantship Program, and Internship Program are designed to give students practical experiences beyond their academic coursework.

Dance Teacher Education
Illinois State University proudly houses the only Dance Teacher Education licensure program within the state of Illinois. We are uniquely positioned to fully prepare undergraduate students interested in teaching careers in the public schools, as well as in the private sector. We provide a challenging yet nurturing environment that prepares students for the diverse career options within the field of Dance Education, helping them achieve teacher licensure for grades 9–12.

Students in this sequence will develop a range of knowledge, skills, and competencies consistent with national and state dance standards while preparing them for a variety of diverse teaching experiences. The structure of the Dance Teacher Education sequence is based on our belief that technical, creative, theoretical, and kinesthetic work will merge to support one's total growth as a dancer and educator.

The program is supported by a diverse and ambitious nationally recognized faculty, bringing a wide variety of movement styles and teaching philosophies to the program. Dancers will develop their knowledge and skills through coursework that includes choreography and improvisation, dance history, multicultural perspectives, dance kinesiology, dance pedagogy, and professional development courses that focus on different teaching methods.

As a crowning achievement, students complete a Senior Seminar course alongside a semester of student teaching, helping them achieve the practical experience necessary for working in the profession. Additionally, students have opportunities to study abroad, work with a variety of guest teachers, and network with Illinois State alumni currently teaching in the field.

Early Childhood Education
The Early Childhood Teacher Education program at Illinois State will prepare you for a professional educator's license for teaching programs serving children birth to age 7 (grade 2). The program is recognized by the National Association of the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) and is a nationally recognized model of standards-based and performance-based teacher education.

Throughout the coursework, teacher candidates will gain the professional knowledge, skills, and experiences needed to become a highly effective parent-infant educator, special education preschool educator, public school pre-kindergarten, child care, or kindergarten through second grade teacher.

The Business Information Systems (BIS) curriculum provides a foundation for students to develop deeper expertise in business information systems activities. The BIS program is intended for those students who wish to move from entry-level jobs to top-level positions where the student would use a combination of business and technical knowledge to lead the design and development of leading-edge enterprise solutions, and maintaining business solutions at the enterprise level.

Theatre Studies

The Theatre Studies major provides you with a broad-based, hands-on education in theatre within the context of a liberal arts degree. After completing a strong core of theatre courses, you have the flexibility to choose specialty courses based on your interests and career orientation in the following areas:

• Stage directing
• Playwriting
• Theatre history
• Creative drama and puppetry
• Integrated performance
• Theatre management
• Film studies

You’ll receive a well-rounded educational experience, from academic pursuit in history, criticism, dramaturgy, and theory, to creative participation in the performing arts.

The graduate sequence in Art Education emphasizes both theory and practice in visual arts, museum, and community arts education. Theoretical ideas are explored through both historical and contemporary models, including culturally responsive, anti-racist, and social-emotional approaches, with an emphasis on practical education and application. You will have the chance to elaborate concepts in tranditional and digital media while interacting and collaborating with stakeholders in a range of settings. Students with a bachelor's or master's degree can pursue an M.S. degree in Art Education while working toward licensure.

Economics - Financial Economics
The Financial Economics sequence provides students training in the financial theory of the firm, financial markets and institutions to complement their training in applied economics analysis. It is designed for students who have an interest in employment opportunities in the financial sector such as investment and commercial banks, economic and financial asset management companies, and consulting firms, or who are interested in pursuing a Ph.D. degree.

This is a STEM designated degree, which focuses on the systematic study of mathematical and statistical analysis of economic phenomena and problems. STEM designated degree programs offer additional benefits for students, including potential grant funded opportunities and, for international students, extended OPT study options.

Master of Science in Computer Science (MSCS) at Illinois State gives you the knowledge and tools necessary to study important issues in computer science to obtain productive employment or pursue advanced degrees.

Our program emphasizes foundational knowledge in computer science and programmatic application of fundamental concepts in leading-edge applications.

It is appropriate for a range of students, including industry computing professionals seeking career advancement, students wishing to expand on their undergraduate computer science work and/or prepare for doctoral degree, and individuals wishing to make a career change.
