The Department of Family and Consumer Sciences offers a Master of Science or Master of Arts degree in Family and Consumer Sciences with a sequence in Human Development and Family Science. This sequence is most appropriate for individuals interested in careers in human development and/or family science who have a human/child development and family science degree or related undergraduate degrees such as psychology, sociology, and social work.

Career opportunities for graduates are in the areas of parent and family education agencies, non-profit organizations, community outreach services, residential- and child-care facilities, and other related areas. Positions could include working as case managers, program coordinators, family/parent educators, and administrators.

Biological Sciences majors selecting this sequence will receive broad training in Conservation Biology. This sequence is designed for students seeking careers in the conservation of natural ecosystems and their organisms (all levels of biodiversity).

The coursework will also prepare students for graduate studies in Conservation Biology, and for internships and entry-level positions in conservation-oriented non-governmental organizations, state and federal governmental organizations, and environmental consulting firms.

After you finish our program, you will be ready to teach history and other social sciences at the high school level, including AP courses. You will have had real teaching experiences: observations, micro-teaching and finishing it off with a semester of student teaching. The FCS teacher education program has a strong reputation of producing high-caliber teachers. It focuses on the fundamentals of teaching and prepares FCS teacher candidates in:
