Students pursuing the Master of Music in Conducting are given extensive podium time and are mentored by dedicated and active conducting faculty. Upon graduation students are prepared to:

• Seek their doctoral degree
• Conduct school, church or community ensembles
• Conduct at a community college or university

The curriculum includes:

• Applied conducting
• Analysis for conductors
• Research
• Practicum in conducting
• Electives chosen from courses like non-degree recitals, music technology, music history, music theory, music education, music therapy, music business, jazz studies, ensembles, and non-music courses

Illinois State's rate of teacher graduation places it among the Top 10 educators of teachers in the nation. Nearly 1 of every 7 teachers in the classrooms of Illinois' public schools holds a degree from Illinois State University. Approximately one-half of all secondary school teachers in downstate Illinois currently hold teaching degrees from Illinois State.

The demand for chemistry teachers is great in both Illinois and across the nation. We need more beginning chemistry teachers over the next 10 years than teacher education programs can currently produce. Illinois State's Chemistry Teacher Education program is fully accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) and the National Science Teachers Association (NSTA). The Department of Chemistry is one of the nation's top producers of degrees certified by the American Chemical Society.

Geology
Geology studies how the Earth works and its history. It’s a field-based science that takes you outside the classroom and into nature. It offers plenty of variety by incorporating principles of chemistry, physics, biology, and math.

Professional geologists study earth processes like landslides, earthquakes, and rock formation. Understanding these activities is essential to sustaining life on Earth.

The Geology program at Illinois State gives you a strong foundation and awareness of these processes. Our traditional approach to teaching prepares you for graduate school or a career. Once you complete our program, you can get licensed and begin a career in the environmental, energy, and minerals industries.

 The Master of Music in Collaborative Piano curriculum include collaboration with a myriad of instruments/voice ins:

• Advanced accompanying
• Keyboard ensemble
• Chamber music
• Large ensembles

Electives may include courses such as:

• Music history
• Music theory
• Pedagogy and literature

The MM in Collaborative Piano prepares graduates for employment as:

• A professional accompanist
• A chamber music musician
• A teacher of accompanying and/or chamber music.

The Film and Digital Media curriculum integrate creative hands-on experience with a fundamental education in film aesthetics, history, and theory.

The interdisciplinary program provides a variety of courses in related fields including theatre, film, video, and arts technology. You'll have great flexibility to choose courses tailored to your career interests, such as critical studies, film and video production, directing, and screenwriting.

Art History
Students pursuing the Art History sequence benefit from a varied menu of course offerings, which reflects the broad range of expertise and interests of the Art History faculty.

The study of Art History examines specific works of sculpture, painting, architecture, and other art forms, both as expressions of human creativity and as uniquely informative historical documents. Through such investigations students gain a greater aesthetic appreciation of art and a deeper understanding of its purposes in different times and places.

Mass Media - Media Arts
The mass media program at ISU consists of two tracks:

• Management, Promotion, & Sales
• Media Arts

As a mass media major, you will learn about the history of the media industries while practicing the business and creation of media in their coursework and hands-on experiences at our student media outlets:

• WZND Radio
• TV 10
• The Vidette
• Student Television Workshop

We hear original music content everywhere via video games, films, television shows, or online media. Students interested in creating original music composition content for new media such as these should major in New Media Composition.

Students take classes from faculty of both the School of Music and the Creative Technologies Program. They will have the opportunity to have original compositions for acoustic instruments read by large ensembles such as the Illinois State University Symphony Orchestra, Illinois State University Wind Symphony, and the Illinois State University choral ensembles. In addition, they will take courses from Creative Technologies faculty on the latest technology topics in sound editing, sound design, and virtual reality programming. 

New Media Composition students are able to receive readings and performances by world-class guest artists and student ensembles and work with Creative Technologies faculty on cutting edge technology projects in sound design, virtual reality environment design, and multi-media composition.

Physics - Computational Physics
Computational physicists use powerful computers to solve complex programs that once seemed impossible.

Professionals are valuable in both research and industry. They have a broad knowledge of physics, computer science, math, and theory. They use their expertise to explore and model physical phenomena, like quarks, black holes, and weather.

Our program gives you a solid background in physics and computation. You’ll learn programming languages and computing techniques to solve challenges in physics. Many students in this program choose to complete a double degree in Computational Physics and Physics.

Insurance - Business Information Systems
The Risk Management and Insurance major at Illinois State University is a premier, nationally known curriculum that prepares students for careers in insurance and risk management. The Business Information Systems sequence enables students to combine a general insurance background with skills in computer programming, systems analysis, and systems design.
