Architectural Engineering
It takes a large team of skilled professionals to design and build a structure that works. Where a foreman manages a construction crew and an architect sets out to see their aesthetic vision come to life, an architectural engineer oversees the structural and mechanical systems that ensure a building can serve its intended purpose well.

Working closely with other specialists, architectural engineers call upon their multidisciplinary knowledge of science, engineering and mathematics to answer questions like: What’s the most efficient and hygienic way to ventilate a hospital? How should screens be positioned in a basketball stadium so players aren’t blinded by their glare? What factors help make a building carbon neutral?

As an architectural engineer, you’ll spend your days finding new ways to improve quality of life through the built environment. Whether designing the acoustics for a new performing arts center or engineering a coastal building that can withstand a Category 5 hurricane, you’ll have a direct hand in creating a safer, more sustainable, more beautiful world for generations to enjoy.

The graduate program in Biological & Ecological Engineering deals with diverse issues in the design and analysis of a wide range of biological and hydrologic systems. Focus areas are in bioprocessing, biosystems analysis and water resource engineering/watershed analysis.

Research topics in Biological and Ecological engineering encompass biofuels production, metabolic engineering, microbial fuel cells, biohydrogen production, agrivoltaics, waste and waste water treatment, modeling and control of biological systems, biofuel systems analysis using techno-economic models and life cycle assessment.

Food Science and Technology
Food Science and Technology concerns the chemistry and engineering necessary to deliver safe, appealing and convenient food products from the farm gate to the food marketer. The academic program integrates principles and concepts in the physical, biological and engineering sciences, and applies them to the scientific and technological aspects of food processing. The role of the food scientist is to successfully integrate these disciplines to assure an abundant, high quality and nutritious food supply.

Marine Studies
Are you interested in pursuing studies about social, political, and cultural issues? Do you want to explore the relationships between humans and the environment while learning about the coasts and ocean?

The College of Liberal Art's Marine Studies Degree will focus on the social, political, and cultural issues of coasts and oceans in the context of a meaningful understanding of marine natural science. Students will receive a Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science.

The School of Nuclear Science and Engineering offers graduate work leading toward the Master of Engineering, Master of Science, and Doctor of Philosophy degrees in Nuclear Engineering.

The nuclear engineering graduate degree is designed to prepare students for careers involved with the many beneficial applications of nuclear energy, radiation, and radioactive materials.
