Mechanical engineering is a broad-based discipline, and graduate students will have opportunities to explore a number of research areas where they will work alongside nationally and internationally known faculty mentors. The Charles and Patsy Collat Industrial Distribution (ID) Program is a rare degree program that puts you at the center of one of the fastest growing fields in business.  Distribution professionals manage the flow of materials from manufacturers to distributors to customers- which means they play a key role in propelling the economy forward by supplying the building blocks for the products America creates and the world buys. Industrial distributors supply government, industry, and manufacturers, with products necessary for business and health care operations.

Graduates are prepared for careers with manufacturers or distributors in technical industries for sales engineering, logistics, marketing, inventory and purchasing positions as well as branch management.

Mathematics

In political science, we teach you how American government and politics compare with the rest of the world. This major is an excellent option if your career interests are either political campaigns, nonprofit advocacy, political research, foreign diplomacy, law, journalism, or education.

To get you started, we'll give you an overview of American government, comparative politics, international relations, political theory, and data and policy. Then, your advisor will help you choose between a line of study that's focused on the United States and one that's more internationally centered. At that point, you'll be able to tailor your curriculum with your goals in mind, search for appropriate internships, and even potentially get one-on-one faculty mentoring through the honors program.

Art
Want to take a deep dive into a specific arts discipline designed to bring out the creative genius inside you? This intensive fine arts program can give you a solid foundation for graduate school or prepare you for a career in graphic design, medical illustration, costume design, cinematography—the possibilities are practically endless.

We'll teach you the techniques of drawing, painting, sculpture, printmaking, new media, and other art forms. But we'll take it one step further by preparing you for a career. We'll show you the business side of being an artist, with courses such as Professionalism, Project Management, and Entrepreneurship. And when your days in our program near their end, you'll participate in an exhibit at UAB's Abroms-Engel Institute for the Visual Arts to highlight your undergraduate journey and celebrate your accomplishments.

Biotechnology
Biotechnology is responsible for a lot—from beer, cheese, and bread to biofuels and many other modern breakthroughs. At UAB, we can teach you the fundamentals of biotechnology and how to develop and launch new products and technology.
As a matter of fact, one of our most important goals is to help you make your ideas a reality. To do this, we'll enroll you in classes that are divided into categories such as principles of biotechnology, applications in biotechnology, bench to commercialization, and professional skills. But that's just the beginning. We believe real-world experience is critical, and you're going to get plenty of it. There'll be guest speakers who have discovered innovative technologies and created new products. Plus, we're going to put you to work with actual biotech companies so you can help develop real solutions.
