The Master of Arts degree in Art History offered jointly with the University of Alabama, Tuscaloosa, is the only art history graduate program in the state. The M.A. degree in Art History prepares students for further academic study at the doctoral level or for professional careers in teaching, museums, galleries, and other arts-related fields. Students may enroll on either campus and must take at least 6 hours of course work on the other campus.

The M.A. program offers a wide range of art history courses and graduate seminars. Each student must take ARH 680 (Methods and Approaches to the History of Art). The M.A. program offers specialized study in Medieval Art, Early Modern Art, Eighteenth-Century/Nineteenth-Century Art, Twentieth-Century/Contemporary Art, South Asian Art, and East Asian Art. The small size of the program affords graduate students the opportunity to work closely with individual faculty members on both campuses in seminars and directed research projects. The M.A. in Art History provides students with a thorough grounding in art history, critical thinking, and research methods.

The Master of Public Health (MPH) with a concentration in Health Care Organization and Policy is designed for individuals who are planning on management-focused careers in public health. Perhaps you aspire to be the executive director of a non-profit charitable organization or a senior-level manager in a health department or federal agency. Perhaps you are a physician, nurse, pharmacist, or other clinician who wants to move from direct patient care into a supervisory position with a broad focus on the health of a community.

Students in this program are introduced to the public health system and the fundamental skills necessary for practice in the public health sector and managing health care organizations. Required coursework includes basic management disciplines and selected content in economics, finance, marketing, law, and health insurance.

Immunology
Immunology is the study of the immune system, including the cells, organs, tissues, and the function the system plays in protecting humans against infectious diseases. It's the perfect foundation for a career in health care, biomedical research, or nearly anything that requires a white coat.

In fact, immunology is a collaborative field, and that's why your training will come from a broad spectrum of the scientific community. You'll take classes in biology, microbiology, chemistry, physics, and mathematics, taught through both our medical school and biology department. Information Systems are the backbone of modern organizations. With today’s speed of innovation, organizations need help keeping up with emerging technologies and understanding how different applications can be leveraged to accomplish enterprise objectives. The amount of information generated each day can be overwhelming. Organizations need the best technological solutions to make sense of the data, and individuals who know how to develop them are in high demand, unlike some other computer related fields. Information Systems requires a blend of technical expertise and business savvy. The program provides a solid foundation in business information systems and business knowledge with a well-rounded business curriculum as well as specialized courses in information systems that deliver a broad understanding of how to leverage technology to achieve business goals.

This program is ideally suited for those who enjoy working with technology and with people. Graduates will be uniquely qualified to serve as liaisons between technical teams and management, and to facilitate collaborative approaches to solve business problems.

Genetic and Genome Sciences
Genetics is a fundamental aspect of all biological processes and affects all facets of our lives. Understanding and analyzing the function and behavior of genes is critical to improving the quality of life for human beings and has far-reaching implications for our entire global ecosystem.

Traditionally viewed as a discipline within biological sciences, today, the study of genetics and genomics is an interdisciplinary exercise that involves multiple fields, including computational sciences and information systems.
It is also a rapidly advancing field in research and training. With the ever-increasing use of genetic tests, and of whole genome sequence information for disease diagnostics, there is a high demand for qualified and experienced genetics researchers and health-related professionals. The UAB Undergraduate Program in Genetics and Genomic Sciences (GGS) is designed to nurture a new generation of UAB undergraduates who will be ideally equipped to pursue and succeed in a career in academic or government research, medicine, biotechnology in industry, and other health-related sciences.

High School Education
As a high-school teacher, you can have a tremendous influence over a person during some of their most formative years. In fact, what you teach someone can last a lifetime. At UAB, we can teach you the skills needed to become a high school educator.

To get started, you must first decide what subject you want to teach: science, social studies, math, or English language arts. Then, you'll learn critical skills, competencies, and instructional strategies from our nationally-renowned faculty. We'll also give you hands-on experience through internships and practicums. Finally, if you're a future math or science teacher, you may want to enroll in UABTeach, our four-year program that lets you earn a STEM degree while also qualifying for certification as a classroom teacher.

A business can't succeed without the right employees, and at UAB, we can teach you how to build, manage, and grow a successful team. With a degree in human resource management, you can choose to work with businesses big and small and in many different industries.

In fact, there are very high standards for this field set by the Society for Human Resource Management, and we've designed our curriculum specifically to meet those standards. That's why, in addition to your core and elective coursework, we're going to provide you with the opportunity to participate in an internship, research project, or study-abroad trip.
