But to get there, you have to start here, with subjects like differential equations, advanced calculus, and mathematical modeling. If you're interested in learning how peace can make a difference in individuals, families, communities, and nations, consider earning an MA in Anthropology of Peace and Human Rights. Our graduates go on to careers in law, teaching, public service, international affairs, business, and journalism.

At UAB, we've never been more focused on peace, justice, human rights, and ecology than we are right now. It's why we established the UAB Institute for Human Rights. It's also why, in 2017, we established this program. It's a two-year master's program with coursework in social and cultural anthropology, archaeology, and biological anthropology. As a student, you'll work with your advisor to choose one of two plans necessary to complete your degree. With Plan 1 (thesis), you'll take five elective courses (15 semester hours) and enroll in six semester hours of thesis credit. If your goal is to earn your PhD, this is the better option for you. With Plan 2 (non-thesis option), you'll take seven elective courses (21 semester hours), and we'll require you to pass a comprehensive final exam before graduation.

To get prepared, you need a solid foundation in economics and decision-sciences, and that's exactly what our program will give you. Choose between mathematical economics, economic analysis and policy, or philosophy, politics, and economics. You will have the opportunity to make networking connections through organizations such as the Economics Club, International Business Association, and the Business Honors Program.

Chemistry
Chemistry connects the basic sciences with all of the applied sciences, including medicine and engineering. Community Health and Human Services
A healthy community doesn't just happen—it takes education, coaching, program development, and, most important, people who care to make a difference. At UAB, you'll gain a full understanding of the human body and prepare for a career helping others live healthy lives.

As you begin the program, we'll sit down with you to help you determine your career goals. Based on those goals, you'll choose a concentration of either community health or human services. In community health, you'll learn about policies, programs, anatomy, and nutrition for the well-being of both individuals and communities. If you choose human services, which is offered both online and on campus, we'll cover topics such as case management, public policy, and intervention.

Information Systems
Information Systems are the backbone of modern organizations. With today’s speed of innovation, organizations need help keeping up with emerging technologies and understanding how different applications can be leveraged to accomplish enterprise objectives. The amount of information generated each day can be overwhelming. Organizations need the best technological solutions to make sense of the data, and individuals who know how to develop them are in high demand, unlike some other computer related fields. Information Systems requires a blend of technical expertise and business savvy. The program provides a solid foundation in business information systems and business knowledge with a well-rounded business curriculum as well as specialized courses in information systems that deliver a broad understanding of how to leverage technology to achieve business goals.

This program is ideally suited for those who enjoy working with technology and with people. Graduates will be uniquely qualified to serve as liaisons between technical teams and management, and to facilitate collaborative approaches to solve business problems.

In finance, we'll teach you how to address an age-old problem: How do you make more money and grow your business? With your BS, we'll train you to add value to all sorts of businesses, including multinational banks, investment firms, and other companies in every industry.

But before you can build that wealth, you need the educational foundation required to fuel your success. That's why our program begins with an exploration of financial planning, investing, valuation, risk management and more. After your core courses, we'll help you choose a track that best fits your career goals. Not to mention, our award-winning, student-managed investment fund, the UAB Green and Gold Fund, will give you real-world experience. Best of all, everything's available both on campus and online.

Biomedical Sciences
The Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Sciences (BMD) program prepares you for health-related graduate and professional study or for entry into one of the fastest growing occupational sectors.
Are you looking for a flexible and solid undergraduate degree that will prepare you for today’s fastest growing occupational sector? Then BMD is for you.
You will tailor your degree to fit your academic and career goals. The program, which includes coursework in physiology, pharmacology, clinical biochemistry, medical microbiology and immunology, plus the pathological basis of disease, includes six elective courses that you choose based on your individual health-related educational track.

Students who successfully complete a Graduate Pathway program in cyber security are assured progression to a UAB graduate degree program upon submission of additional required application materials. Cyber Security
The Master of Science in Cyber-Security (MSSec) program is an interdisciplinary professional/practice graduate program intended to develop skills — familiarity with industry practices, innovative methods, critical thinking, and problem solving — crucial for competitiveness and success in the areas of computer forensics, information security management, and forensic accounting.
This program is intended to increase the pipeline of prospective, high-quality, entry- and advanced level employees involved with protecting physical and virtual systems — systems that are vital to the US and whose incapacitation or destruction would have a debilitating effect on national security and the nation’s economic system. The program also provides current employees in the public and private sectors an opportunity to obtain advanced-level, high-quality training in the core areas of computer forensics, information security management, and forensic accounting, to facilitate career advancement.

MS Cyber-Security involves faculty from the Departments of Computer Science and Criminal Justice (College of Arts and Sciences) and the Departments of Management, Information Systems Quantitative Methods, and Accounting & Finance (School of Business).

Mechanical Engineering
From building powerful machines to extracting power from them, mechanical engineers keep the world’s machinery operating. We can teach you how to design, build, and maintain these mechanical systems.
In fact, mechanical engineers provide solutions in manufacturing, productivity, workplace safety, and countless other areas. That's why we teach you not only the basics, but advanced topics like thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, heat transfer, mechanics of machinery, and mechanical design—plus give you hands-on lab experiences. You can also enhance your education with mechanical systems or energy systems electives. Best of all, you can earn a certification to teach general science with UABTeach, and you can earn your master's simultaneously with our fast-track program.
The Mechanical Engineering (ME) undergraduate program at UAB features small class sizes and the opportunity for one-on-one interactions between faculty members and students. The curriculum is designed to get students proficient in mechanical engineering science, with a mixture of mostly theoretical and mostly lab-based courses that explore all facets of mechanical engineering applications. During the senior year, a comprehensive design experience allows students to project, build, and test a mechanical device, while learning to work in groups and to overcome "real-life" obstacles (cost overruns, fabrication schedule delays, etc.).
