Genetic and Genome Sciences
Genetics is a fundamental aspect of all biological processes and affects all facets of our lives. Understanding and analyzing the function and behavior of genes is critical to improving the quality of life for human beings and has far-reaching implications for our entire global ecosystem.

Traditionally viewed as a discipline within biological sciences, today, the study of genetics and genomics is an interdisciplinary exercise that involves multiple fields, including computational sciences and information systems.
It is also a rapidly advancing field in research and training. With the ever-increasing use of genetic tests, and of whole genome sequence information for disease diagnostics, there is a high demand for qualified and experienced genetics researchers and health-related professionals. The UAB Undergraduate Program in Genetics and Genomic Sciences (GGS) is designed to nurture a new generation of UAB undergraduates who will be ideally equipped to pursue and succeed in a career in academic or government research, medicine, biotechnology in industry, and other health-related sciences.

Foreign Languages
As a foreign languages student, not only will you learn another language, you'll also gain a deeper understanding of culture, art, history, and philosophy. These will be critically important skills for you in fields like journalism, medicine, tourism, government, social work, and more.

To succeed in these careers, you absolutely must know how to communicate effectively in local, national, and global communities alike. That's why we offer you traditional language, culture, civilization, linguistics, and literature classes. But that's just the beginning. You can also take courses such as Literature in Translation, Film and Cultural Studies, Foreign Media and Society, U.S. Latino Topics, Applied Linguistics, and Languages for the Professions. With internships and opportunities to study abroad, you can expand your worldview even further.

Students joining our Integrated Master Program (IMP) will benefit from a degree-seeking I-20 while still receiving the additional support provided by INTO UAB, from the day they apply through their first semester on campus. The Master of Public Health (MPH) is the most wellknown Public Health degree. It is considered a “terminal” or “professional” degree, as it fully prepares individuals for lifelong careers in public health practice without the need for additional education. 

Maternal and Child Health Policy and Leadership - Concentration
The Master of Public Health (MPH) with a concentration in Maternal and Child Health Policy and Leadership is designed to educate individuals who will plan, administer, and evaluate programs in maternal and child health. The program provides information about the special problems faced by women and children — including children and youth with special health care needs — and their families. It develops and integrates skills from maternal and child health policy and leadership and demonstrate their application in problem solving and systems development.

Political Science
In political science, we teach you how American government and politics compare with the rest of the world. This major is an excellent option if your career interests are either political campaigns, nonprofit advocacy, political research, foreign diplomacy, law, journalism, or education.

To get you started, we'll give you an overview of American government, comparative politics, international relations, political theory, and data and policy. Then, your advisor will help you choose between a line of study that's focused on the United States and one that's more internationally centered. At that point, you'll be able to tailor your curriculum with your goals in mind, search for appropriate internships, and even potentially get one-on-one faculty mentoring through the honors program.

Immunology
Immunology is the study of the immune system, including the cells, organs, tissues, and the function the system plays in protecting humans against infectious diseases. It's the perfect foundation for a career in health care, biomedical research, or nearly anything that requires a white coat.

In fact, immunology is a collaborative field, and that's why your training will come from a broad spectrum of the scientific community. You'll take classes in biology, microbiology, chemistry, physics, and mathematics, taught through both our medical school and biology department. And, we’ll help you prepare for a continued education or career in fields such as biochemistry, cell biology, cancer biology, infectious diseases, neurobiology, endocrinology, and cardiology.

As a mechanical engineer, the devices you design are critical to our modern economy and future innovation. A master’s degree can help you learn advanced engineering methods and give you research opportunities.

We've developed a research-intensive curriculum, with unique hands-on experiences and mentorship from our faculty. As you earn your degree, you'll have the option of choosing a path with or without a thesis. With a thesis, you’ll take more mathematics courses, which can be beneficial if you want to pursue a doctoral degree. If you'd rather do a research or design project, you can do so with an emphasis in research/design or technology/engineering management. No matter what you choose, you will have an opportunity to explore a number of research areas.

Because managers are the ones who skillfully coordinate and control the activities of the organization to achieve business goals.  At the core of good management is the need to know how to attract, motivate and reward the best and brightest people.  Management is also about effective alignment.  Organizations are complicated systems that rely on the effective coordination of people, technology and organizational processes to be successful.  Managers drive this alignment through their skills of strategic thinking, strong communications and employee motivation to create business value.

Today’s business environment requires graduates who can effectively evaluate and make decisions, lead employees and manage resources. Management is ideal for people who like big picture thinking, can understand how processes work, have a passion for problem-solving and who can multi-task effectively to help create value for the organization. Management is also a great place to start for entrepreneurs interested in starting their own businesses.

Students who successfully complete an INTO UAB Graduate Pathway program in Mechanical Engineering are assured progression to a UAB graduate business degree program upon submission of additional required application materials. In the Master of Science in Electrical and Computer Engineering (MSECE) program, you’ll be able to learn advanced skills in electrical and computer engineering or continue on a path for entry into a doctoral program. The curriculum builds on the foundation of knowledge and skills you established when you earned your bachelor's.

The MSECE provides advanced study in specialized areas such as computer software and networking, control, microelectronics and embedded systems, signal and image processing, power systems and telecommunication. You'll have the option of completing a thesis (involving research and an oral defense) or a non-thesis route (involving extra coursework and a graduate project).
