Work Permit USA

Optional Practical Training or OPT is a period during which students, who have completed their degrees in the USA, are permitted to work for one year on a student visa by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). OPT allows students to work for up to 3 years and develop real-world skills to survive in the competitive jobs market.

It is temporary employment for a period of 12-months that is directly related to the major area of study of an F-1 student. Eligible students have the option to apply for OPT employment authorization before completing their academic studies and/or after completing their academic studies.

A student can participate in three types of Optional Practical Training (OPT):

  1. Pre-Completion OPT: This is temporary employment provided to F-1 students before completion of their course of study.
  2. Post-Completion OPT: This is temporary employment available to F-1 students after completing their course of study.
  3. 24 Month STEM Extension: Students enrolled in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) courses can a 24-month extension after their initial Post-Completion OPT authorization.

Political science is the study of government, public policy and the political behavior of individuals and groups. When students embark on a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science with an emphasis in Ideas and Methods, they focus on theoretical questions that lead to real-world change. Students explore the processes, principles and structures of government and political institutions in the U.S. and in countries around the globe. Big data is changing the world. Offered through the Department of Mathematics, this degree prepares you to take part in the data revolution. Students earning a Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Arts in Statistics and Data Science will have a solid foundation in mathematics. Yet they focus on the capture, maintenance, processing, analysis and communication of data through immersion in courses in probability, statistics, data science and computer programming. Undergraduates also must complete a minor outside the Department of Mathematics. The B.A. and B.S. allow students to pursue graduate degrees or careers in analytics, risk assessment, finance, and other math- and science-related fields.

Develop critical solutions from those based in scientific disciplines to law and education - to help manage and protect our natural resources. The Conservation Biology emphasis in the Bachelor of Science in Natural Resources encourages students to study conservation across taxa (invertebrates, vertebrates, plants, fungi, microbes) and across scientific disciplines such as ecology, genetics and evolution. The program of study also includes coursework in policy, planning and economics. Students acquire highly desirable science and social-science skills and real-world experiences to pursue careers as conservation biologists, conservation planners, environmental educators, researchers, natural resource managers and ecologists. This B.S. degree program also prepares students for graduate degrees in law and policy or work in government agencies and nonprofits, such as The Nature Conservancy.

Systems biology analyzes cells on a system or network level for a better understanding of an organism as a whole. Students earning a Bachelor of Science in Molecular and Cellular Biology with a subplan in Systems and Big Data Biology study a combination of mathematics, statistics and computing in addition to core coursework in biology. The subplan educates students on the applications of data science to research and analysis methods and the communication of findings.
