Graduate Pathway in Computer Science or Computer Engineering (2-Semester Pathway) Leading to Master of Science in Computer Science

This master’s program can be done either fully online or in a hybrid (combination face-to-face and online) manner. It will consist of two tracks. The applied track will prepare students for the newly emerging and rapidly changing field of digital journalism, which brings new technologies and evolving value to bear on the report of global news and events. The academic track will prepare students in both emerging digital news and communication technologies while adding an academic dimension for those wishing to continue their studies or pursue a Ph.D. in Mass Communications or other related field.

Learning Design and Technology-M.S.
The Master of Science in Learning Design and Technology (LDT) provides a comprehensive curriculum and intensive training to prepare you for the job market of today and the emerging fields of tomorrow in K-12 schools, higher education, industry, military and/or other governmental agencies.

English with a concentration in Creative Writing
A bachelor’s degree in English prepares students for any field that values critical thinking, high reading comprehension, clear and effective writing, and the ability to interpret and analyze language. It provides two concentrations from which students must choose one: Creative Writing and Literary Studies.

Digital Communication & Multimedia Journalism
The Bachelor of Arts in Digital Communication and Multimedia Journalism is a hands-on program that allows students to prepare for careers in journalism, digital media, promotional communication, web development, photography, videography and other jobs requiring production of digital media content.

The degree in Physical Sciences will prepare students for employment in technical fields requiring a background in one or more of the physical sciences.

The Computer Science program focuses on the design, development, and application of software systems. Additional course work in algorithms, discrete structures, object oriented design, data structures, operating systems, digital logic design, computer architecture, and a wide range of advanced electives extend and supplement the core.

Marketing
Marketing is a dynamic field with many dimensions, including product selection and planning, product distribution, pricing and promotion. Marketing poses many challenges and yields generous rewards for those who meet these challenges. Marketing operations are carried out domestically and internationally in all business organizations that offer a good or service. Many marketing concepts are applicable to the operations of non-profit organizations such as governmental, educational, and healthcare institutions, as well as charitable and political campaigns. Marketing operations provide the most visible links between the firm or institution and its many publics. Marketing deals with people who are constantly changing in their needs, wants, and desires; and coupled with these changing tastes is a fiercely competitive environment sustained by all the resources of a rapidly evolving technology. These forces lead to much of the challenge and dynamic nature of marketing.

The Marketing program prepares students for initial entry and management positions in many areas of marketing with a curriculum that is concerned with:

• Understanding how to attract and retain customers;
• Having the ability to find and analyze information;
• Being able to design, collect, and analyze marketing information to be used in managerial decision making;
• Using digital and traditional media to reach customers;
• Having personal communication skills that businesses demand;
• Being capable of writing an actionable marketing plan;
• Understanding and being able to apply the latest marketing concepts, including marketing automation.

The Philosophy program at the University of South Florida aims to produce teachers and scholars with a deep understanding of philosophy and a broad knowledge of its history. The Department of Computer Science and Engineering offers a non?thesis option for the degree of Master of Science in Information Technology (M.S.I.T). The MSIT graduate will demonstrate strong information technology skills as well as problem solving skills needed for the deployment of technology solutions to achieve business and organizational goals. The degree is available in an hybrid mode (online and face to face), and provides students with a broad and integrative understanding of both technology and operational and strategic business and organizational applications. There is considerable freedom in the choice of the courses.

The breadth of subjects which are part of information technology together with the immense diversity of its applications, make it imperative that students in the Master’s major maintain close contact with the Graduate Director, in order to achieve a coherent plan of study directed towards a specific goal. In particular, election of courses should only be made with prior consultation and approval of the Major Professor or the Graduate Director.

Criminology
The Bachelor of Arts degree in Criminology provides students with the skills and knowledge needed in the wide variety of agencies that comprise the criminal justice system, these include law enforcement, detention, the judiciary, corrections, juvenile justice, probation and parole. Also, the undergraduate program prepares criminology students to pursue a graduate degree in Criminology or related disciplines. The undergraduate program in Criminology introduces students to the theory, issues and methodology of the causes of crime and the criminal justice system. The program provides students with the critical thinking skills necessary for the consumption and production of criminological research. Upon graduation, students must be able to delineate the main theoretical explanations of crime and delinquency, demonstrate knowledge of research methods used in the fields of criminology and criminal justice, and provide an understanding of the structure and process of the U.S. system of criminal justice.
