This degree prepares our majors to go on to graduate school, medical school, law school, or choose to enter the workforce in a wide variety of public, private, governmental, and non-profit agencies. Faculty in the department collaborate with an extensive group of disciplines, providing students across campus with a site for interdisciplinary learning and teaching. Given the intensity and rigor of study, including analytical reading and critical writing, our majors make themselves extremely attractive to potential employers

The Spanish Section of the Department of World Languages supports a broad, intellectually-driven approach to teaching language, culture, and literature in higher education. Languages and cultures are complex, multifunctional phenomena that link an individual to other individuals, to communities and to national cultures. The graduate major in Spanish offers students academic and practical training in the languages, literatures and cultures of the Spanish-speaking communities of Spain, Latin America, and the United States. Students who receive a Masters of Arts in Spanish from the Department of World Language Education at USF become well-educated communicators with deep translingual and transcultural competence. Thus, they are exceptionally prepared to either continue studies leading to the Ph.D., or find careers in related fields such as the teaching profession, translation, government, civil service agencies, legal and paralegal services, or foreign and domestic business enterprises.

Entrepreneurship
A major in Entrepreneurship is intended for those students interested in the possibility of self-venturing or who may someday work in an entrepreneurial firm. Upon completion of this major, students will be especially prepared to leverage their knowledge to work in management positions within high growth, innovative firms or to take their own idea to market. This major utilizes an interdisciplinary approach to education thus providing a well-rounded knowledge of business.

Students will learn the creative nature of idea/opportunity identification and evaluation, the unique skills necessary to build an entrepreneurial firm, and the ability to interact with local community resources and mentors.

The M.A. in Mass Communications is designed for students who are seeking advanced studies in preparation for professional and academic careers in mass communications. The program offers one degree, the Master of Arts in Mass Communications.

The Media Studies Concentration emphasizes the theoretical principles and research methods of mass communications. The Strategic Communication Management Concentration emphasizes public relations management and social science research.

The Master of Science (M.S.) in Business Analytics and Information Systems (BAIS) meets the needs of the marketplace for expertise in analytics, information technology and management. Highly qualified individuals with motivation for leadership in information technology and analytics are encouraged to apply for admission to this program. The major meets the needs of organizations in information services, software development, management consulting, and other sectors wherer data analytics is used in industry. An Advisory Board consisting of senior business analytics and information systems executives works closely with the department to ensure that the program stays relevant and maintains high standards.

The major is offered in two forms – an on-campus option and an executive/professional option.

The on-campus option is designed to allow students a traditional classroom experience.  While most courses are offered face-to-face, some sections may be offered virtually.  Students will work with faculty to design the most effective course sequence and optional thesis/practicum /independent studies to meet the major curriculum requirements and accomplish their career goals.

Alternately, the online executive/professional option is intended for full-time working Information Technology/Information Systems/Business professionals who will pursue this degree while remaining employed. The executive/professional option is offered on a cohort basis with a pre-determined set of courses and independent study options selected by faculty based on market needs and student profiles. Students will benefit from an accelerated curriculum with a managerial and leadership approach. To get the full benefit, applicants are expected to have a minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience.

History
The discipline of History embraces a diverse world of ideas, peoples, and events. Our faculty seek to inform and to question, to provoke and to challenge our students to a higher level of understanding of the past. History at the University of South Florida (USF) offers the student an opportunity to explore civilizations from around the globe and from the ancient through contemporary eras. Students are encouraged to move beyond traditional memorization of material to a critical level of thinking, analysis, and synthesis. Accomplished History majors are attractive to all kinds of employers in any number of fields, as well as to graduate and professional schools. USF History alumni may be found in such diverse professions as law, medicine, business, government, foreign-service, politics, and education.

For international students interested in the production, distribution and consumption of goods and services, the Graduate Pathway in Economics leads to a Master of Arts in Economics from the University of South Florida. Economics-M.A.
The M.A. in Economics is a non-thesis degree designed to prepare students for positions in business or government or for further graduate work in an economics Ph.D. program.

The program consists of 30 hours of coursework plus the successful completion of an oral exam given before a committee of three members of the faculty. The 30 hours of coursework is comprised of 12 hours of required coursework, at least 12 hours of economics elective coursework, and no more than 6 hours of elective coursework drawn from outside of economics.

The M.S. in Child and Adolescent Behavioral Health  is offered by the Department of Child and Family Studies, College of Behavioral and Community Sciences. This major will prepare students for careers in public and non-profit organizations serving youth and their families. This major will prepare students to serve in roles such as director, supervisor, case manager, evaluator, and consultant within these organizations. Students have the opportunity to focus their coursework on individual areas of interest, including leadership, developmental disabilities, research and evaluation, and youth and behavioral health.

Geology
The Bachelor of Science degree program provides the student with a hands-on foundation in the fundamentals of the geosciences. As a result of faculty interests and geographic locations, several geologic sub-disciplines are emphasized, including applied geophysics, coastal geology, geochemistry, geomorphology, geoscience education, hydrogeology, paleobiology, petrology, and volcanology. However, the wide variety of courses and electives offered by the Geology, Environmental Sciences, and Geography programs within the School of Geosciences provides students with programs of study that can be tailored to fit individual needs while maintaining a sound background in all general aspects of geology.

English with a concentration in Creative Writing
A bachelor’s degree in English prepares students for any field that values critical thinking, high reading comprehension, clear and effective writing, and the ability to interpret and analyze language. It provides two concentrations from which students must choose one: Creative Writing and Literary Studies.
