Electrical Engineering-M.S.
The faculty of the Electrical Engineering Department at USF takes great pride in providing a high quality education to our more than 400 graduate students and invites you to consider joining us in advancing the frontiers of knowledge. Our student body is diverse, our research spans experimental and theoretical studies of many fundamental areas of electrical engineering, and we enjoy strong partnerships throughout industry and with prominent national laboratories and federal agencies. Most importantly our graduate students benefit from the dedicated, personal guidance of our faculty.

The faculty of electrical engineering hails from some of the finest institutions in the country, and includes NSF CAREER Award winners, Fellows of the IEEE and AAAS, Distinguished University Professors, and a member of the National Academy of Engineering. Many serve in national leadership roles in technical societies such as the IEEE, have industry experience to complement their academic backgrounds, and lend their expertise to federal agencies such as The National Science Foundation and The National Institutes of Health. Some are very entrepreneurial and have founded spin-off companies based on their research. This diversity of experience enriches the learning and experiences of our students.

Physics
The B.S. program is intended for students planning to pursue graduate studies in physics or a closely related field.

The Bachelor of Arts in Communication is a liberal arts degree that prepares students to communicate effectively and ethically in personal and professional relationships and in both face-to-face and mediated contexts. More specifically this degree prepares students to:

• Collaborate, work, and lead in culturally-diverse teams and organizations;
• Develop advanced communication skills and competencies in oral, written, social media, and/or other forms of communication;
• Analyze and create messages, presentations, and persuasive communication strategies;
• Understand, build, and strengthen personal and professional identities and relationships;
• Study and critique culture and media including: media organizations, communication technologies, and mediated content (e.g., television, film, music, print, computer, Internet, and social media);
• Apply communication knowledge and related skills in one or more specialized contexts (e.g., health care; media; marketing; law; politics; profits and not-for-profits; government; public advocacy; social movements; religion; world cafés; public dialogues; performance; intimate and family relationships);
• Engage in undergraduate communication research; and
• Become active and productive U.S. and global citizens.

Forensic Science and Justice
The Bachelor of Science in Forensic Studies and Justice provides pre-law and law enforcement-minded students with a critical analytical education to help improve the use of evidence in investigations, especially in the criminal justice system. The major teaches about forensic applications in criminal justice, cognitive biases, structured analytical techniques, and case study analysis within a systems thinking paradigm to provide a solid background to reduce errors in and improve investigations. The objective of the undergraduate major in Forensic Studies and Justice is to develop a sound educational basis either for law school, graduate work, or professional training in one or more of the technical areas comprising the modern criminal justice system, like investigators, analysts, agents, or technicians at the local, state, and federal levels. By tailoring electives, students can create areas of professional emphasis like white collar crime, human trafficking, victims’ advocates, environmental crimes, and others.

Music-M.M.
Perhaps the most compelling reason to study music at the University of South Florida is the opportunity to work with our superb music faculty. These gifted, dedicated artists/scholars are among the preeminent leaders in their fields and have been carefully chosen for their professional training, excellence in musical performance and research, and pedagogical expertise. They are featured on many professional recordings and appear in prestigious concert venues around the world. Their compositions are premiered globally. Their scholarship is published in the leading research journals, books, and monographs in their disciplines. The School of Music also invites guest composers, conductors, and performing musicians to enhance its performances and to provide master classes, symposia, and clinics for students and the public. Many USF music alumni are currently performers in a variety of concert settings and successful teachers in public schools, colleges, and universities around the country in a variety of concert settings. The School of Music at USF offers the student the opportunity to study with distinguished faculty and to be in the company of other superior music students for an exciting and exacting period of study.

The B.F.A. program in Studio Art will expose the student to many possibilities in the art-making process. The areas of emphasis in art media are animation, painting, drawing, printmaking, photography, sculpture, ceramics, and video. These options provide access to a comprehensive program of study in art. Students can develop their conceptual and technical skills in a particular art discipline or decide to investigate a specific subject through the use of numerous media and “mixed” forms of art.

The major in International Studies enables students to undertake programs of study which emphasize: (a) preparation for careers in international activities, or (b) the study of particular international themes or topics, or (c) the study of particular regions or cultures. Each student develops a course of study designed to fulfill his or her career and educational goals in consultation with the International Studies advisor.

The Finance major provides a broad-based, analytical program for students anticipating a career in the management of both large and small organizations. Finance provides a good background for students seeking general careers in business. Finance majors can elect to take courses in the following areas that prepare them for entry and advanced careers in: financial management of corporations, management of financial institutions, investments, financial services, insurance, and real estate. In addition, the program in Finance is designed to provide the skills required by students earning degrees in other business disciplines and by students who seek professional degrees in areas such as law and public administration. The Finance program offers courses that enable the graduate to identify and solve problems in the acquisition and allocation of funds by organizations in the public and private sectors in domestic and international settings. It provides the background necessary for managing wealth in a risky environment. Finance relies on an interdisciplinary approach that draws on economic theory, accounting, information systems, and the quantitative decision frameworks of statistics and mathematics. The major is designed to ensure that graduates are familiar with the tools of financial decision making and that they possess the skills to stay abreast of the developments in the field. Finance graduates will understand the functions and operations of financial markets, become familiar with computer applications in finance, and know how to access and utilize financial information. Course content is designed to provide majors with an appreciation of cooperative work skills and to enhance their verbal and written communication skills.

The School of Social Work offers a program leading to a Master of Social Work (M.S.W.) degree. The M.S.W. graduate program in social work is a course of study designed to respond to an identified need in the region for skilled clinical social work practitioners. It is built upon a core of information basic to social work practice, followed by an advanced scholarly study in preparation for clinical work with individuals, families, and small groups. An intense field practicum gives students the opportunity to apply theory gained in the classroom to the problems of agency clients.
