Religious Studies
In Religious Studies, students are exposed to a cross-cultural and multi-disciplinary study of the way in which both individuals and civilizations are deeply influenced by human religious experience. The goal is to enable the educated person to understand better the various ways in which religious values and institutions shape human behavior through a comparative study of religions and cultures. Such an education is invaluable for careers as diverse as journalism, law, medicine, business, as well as careers more directly related to the practice of religion. Majors in Religious Studies will also find courses designed to give them the methodological, theoretical and linguistic skills needed to go on to advanced graduate study in the field.

This program has been certified as a Global Pathway. Global Pathway programs have significant global content and align with the goals of USF’s Quality Enhancement Plan, the Global Citizens Project. Students in Global Pathway programs are well positioned to earn the Global Citizen Award and become eligible to apply for a study abroad scholarship offered by the Global Citizens Project.

Electrical Engineering-M.S.
The faculty of the Electrical Engineering Department at USF takes great pride in providing a high quality education to our more than 400 graduate students and invites you to consider joining us in advancing the frontiers of knowledge. Our student body is diverse, our research spans experimental and theoretical studies of many fundamental areas of electrical engineering, and we enjoy strong partnerships throughout industry and with prominent national laboratories and federal agencies. Most importantly our graduate students benefit from the dedicated, personal guidance of our faculty.

The faculty of electrical engineering hails from some of the finest institutions in the country, and includes NSF CAREER Award winners, Fellows of the IEEE and AAAS, Distinguished University Professors, and a member of the National Academy of Engineering. Many serve in national leadership roles in technical societies such as the IEEE, have industry experience to complement their academic backgrounds, and lend their expertise to federal agencies such as The National Science Foundation and The National Institutes of Health. Some are very entrepreneurial and have founded spin-off companies based on their research. This diversity of experience enriches the learning and experiences of our students.

Mass Communications with a concentration in Broadcast-Program and Production
The Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communications is a pre-professional, hands-on program that prepares students for careers in communication, especially broadcast journalism, digital media, and promotional communication. The program has two concentrations: Broadcast-News and Broadcast-Program and Production.

Graduates should understand the structure and functions of media systems as well as the basic processes of mass communication. Students learn 21st century writing and video skills that prepare them for a variety of media jobs. The Tampa media market, which consistently ranks in the top 15 in the country, provides students with opportunities to learn from industry professionals who visit classes and host students in their workplaces. While pursuing their studies, students are strongly encouraged to expand their learning beyond the classroom by completing internships and working in the field.

Business Analytics and Information Systems
The Business Analytics and Information Systems (BAIS) major provides the skills and knowledge necessary to enter the rapidly changing world of business analytics and information systems. Potential career paths include data analyst, business intelligence analyst, business analyst, consulting, systems analyst, database administrator, project manager or a myriad of technology management roles in business.

Geology
The Bachelor of Arts program is designed primarily for the liberal arts student who has an interest in careers in Geoscience education or environmental policy and law. A student who elects the B.A. program and decides to pursue the geology profession or attend graduate school will need at least field geology in his/her program.

Industrial engineering (IE) is a field of study intended for individuals who are interested in formulating mathematical, statistical, and computer simulation models of complex systems in manufacturing, logistics, information, healthcare, transportation, financial, utilities, entertainment, and service. IEs connect big data sets and models to make engineering decisions for improving system performance and developing public policies. Unlike traditional disciplines in engineering, the scope of the industrial engineering field is very broad.

The major is designed to provide students with advanced training in either Anatomy, Biochemistry, Medical Microbiology, or Pharmacology.  Students successfully completing the major will have a foundation that will prepare them for a professional degree in biomedical science such as a M.D. or Ph.D. or qualify them to work as teachers or research assistants in academia or in the private sector.   The major will provide a solid core of training in the latest findings, concepts, and experimental techniques.  Students will be allowed to individualize their training through elective courses and will have the opportunity to conduct laboratory research.  The major is intended for students who wish training beyond a baccalaureate degree but do not wish to commit to a Ph.D. major or do not meet the qualifications required for admissions into a M.D. or Ph.D. major.

The Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing is a graduate-level major that emphasizes the craft of writing and concentrates on the student’s original work. The MFA typically will take three years for the student to complete. Our goal is to help MFA students to produce publishable theses and secure teaching or editing positions upon graduation.
