Master of Arts in Women and Gender Studies

The undergraduate major in Management prepares students to manage and lead all aspects of organizations. It also prepares students for graduate study in business and other fields. Mastery of course content enables students to inspire themselves, others, teams, and organizations to coordinate efforts to provide effective outcomes. Content covered includes ethics and virtue, organizational behavior, human resources, domestic and international cultural differences, and negotiating skills. A capstone course integrates the learning objectives of the major in a study of a real company where students demonstrate that they can now apply effectively what they have learned.

The M.S. in Microbiology is administered by the Department of Cell Biology, Molecular Biology and Microbiology. The mission of the Department of Cell Biology, Microbiology and Molecular Biology (CMMB) is to prepare graduate students for various professional careers in academia, government or industry in the areas of Cell Biology, Microbiology, and Molecular Biology. We pursue excellence in the following programmatic research areas: genome integrity and mechanisms of aging, bacterial pathogenesis and resistance, structural and computational biology.

Due to the interdisciplinary aspect of most research projects, faculty and graduate students often work together on broad ranging research projects that bring together many of the traditionally separate areas of biology.

Africana Studies
Africana Studies is a liberal arts program offering a Bachelor of Arts in Africana Studies, a Minor in Africana Studies and a Certificate in Africana Literatures. This program provides all students with the opportunity to study the history, culture and lived experiences of people of African descent–on the African continent and throughout the world. Students also study the influence of Africa and people of African descent on the world at-large. The Africana Studies curriculum also explores the social construction of race and racism and encourages the development of critical thinking skills while also challenging students to explore new ideas, seek new connections and become actively engaged in the global community.

Hospitality Management
The Bachelor of Science in Hospitality Management, in School of Hospitality & Tourism Management (SHTL) at the Sarasota-Manatee campus location, prepares graduates for global leadership positions in the hospitality industry through foundational knowledge of hospitality operations and experiences that develop critical thinkers who promote diversity, ethical responsibility, lifelong learning, and community engagement.

Computer Science
The Computer Science program focuses on the design, development, and application of software systems. Additional course work in algorithms, discrete structures, object oriented design, data structures, operating systems, digital logic design, computer architecture, and a wide range of advanced electives extend and supplement the core.

Geology incorporates the fundamentals of biology, chemistry, mathematics, and physics to study the earth and the processes that affect our planet.  This degree offers advanced geoscience education and training suitable for joining professional workforce and/or as the foudnatino for pursuing a Ph.D.

Medical Technology
The University of South Florida offers a four year program leading to the Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Technology. The first three years are completed on campus; the fourth year (12 months) is completed at one of three affiliated hospitals in Florida, located in Tampa, St. Petersburg, and Jacksonville. Admission to the fourth year is limited by the number of openings in affiliated hospitals and, at the present time, is competitive. Selection for the clinical program is made by the hospitals and students not admitted to a clinical program will need to select an alternate degree. Generally, hospitals require a minimum GPA of 2.50 to a 2.75, and our students admitted to clinical programs in recent years have had a mean GPA of 3.4 or higher. Students successfully completing this program will be granted a Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Technology.

Graphic Arts with Graphic Design Concentration
The Graphic Arts degree offers students a sequence of rigorous courses that balance critical thinking and pragmatic experience, complemented by the enriched experience of the liberal arts environment of the University of South Florida.

Graphic artists develop the images that give voice to the world around us. Using their raw materials - the ability to think, draw, write, speak and design - students learn the skills to solve specific visual problems. The study of typography, design concepts, and digital technology develops an understanding of the tradition, practice, and process of graphic design.

This program guides students in building the imagination, aesthetic sensitivity, and powers of critical thought required to succeed as visual communicators. The curriculum emphasizes expertise in image development, typography, print and screen-based graphics, and interactive design. The program prepares students for the rigor of professional design practice through an internship program, courses in production, and portfolio development. Additionally, students design, organize and promote an exhibition of their final senior project.

Gerontology is the study of the process of human aging in all its aspects: physical, psychological, and social. The demographic imperative of an increasingly older age distribution will require graduates who have acquired an integrated base of knowledge and skills to deal with the complex challenges that will confront individuals, societies, and nations in the coming decades. The M.A. in Gerontology program emphasizes educating students who, in their professional careers, will work to sustain or improve the quality of life of older people. The ultimate goal of this program is to educate the next generation of practitioners and program personnel in the field of aging and gerontology and to prepare interested students for doctoral programs in aging and related fields.

They are featured on many professional recordings and appear in prestigious concert venues around the world. Their compositions are premiered globally. Their scholarship is published in the leading research journals, books, and monographs in their disciplines. The School of Music also invites guest composers, conductors, and performing musicians to enhance its performances and to provide master classes, symposia, and clinics for students and the public. Many USF music alumni are currently performers in a variety of concert settings and successful teachers in public schools, colleges, and universities around the country in a variety of concert settings. The School of Music at USF offers the student the opportunity to study with distinguished faculty and to be in the company of other superior music students for an exciting and exacting period of study.

The Master of Music degree provides students with an opportunity to pursue intense, focused study in their music specialty, coupled with a vigorous, balanced curriculum in music theory, music literature, and electives. Students in this major are mentored expertly by senior faculty and exhibit mastery of their specialty at the end of the course of study by way of appropriate capstone experiences, including recitals or theses and comprehensive examinations. The provisions and balance of these experiences comport precisely with the curriculum guidelines required by the National Association of Schools of Music.
