In the Sustainable Food Systems program at Montana State, students focus on the interconnected relationships between production, food policy, food security and health in order to make informed decisions and solutions to complex problems in the food industry. Sustainable Food Systems students develop important skills through hands-on experience in service-based learning internships, organic farming, culinary fundamentals and management, training on research methods and carrying out research projects in surrounding communities.

In the Bioengineering program at Montana State, graduate students further their understanding of topics related to biofilms, biochemical transformation and bioengineering in order to build professional skills and knowledge in the medical and energy system sectors. By earning a Masters of Engineering degree, candidates further their understanding of new subjects in the biological engineering field alongside award-winning faculty who are recognized leaders in their areas of expertise.

Students in the Sustainable Livestock Production program at Montana State focus on the relationship between animal agriculture, its continued presence in sustainable grazing systems and its potential role in sustainable farming. Sustainable Livestock Production students learn about the science of animal production within the context of sustainability, from the methods that impact the production, process and preservation of meat to the role of strategic grazing in landscape management, among other subjects.

Students within the Applied Mathematics program at Montana State learn to describe physical phenomena within the world using deterministic models. Applied Mathematics students will use their skills in mathematical analysis and computational science to draw insights in the biological and physical science fields, as well as other applications.

Students within the Geology program at Montana State learn to apply the principles of chemistry, physics and mathematics to the study of the Earth’s surface and interior. The Technology Education program in the Department of Education at Montana State is a multi-disciplinary program of study designed to develop technological literacy through the study of past, present and future technological systems and their impacts on society. The Industry Option provides students the opportunity to develop skills in a variety of areas plus the flexibility to choose courses that allow them to further develop in-depth skills for their chosen career path. Students in the industrial technology option typically intern in business and industry areas related to their career interests.

The Community Health program at Montana State focuses on improving health and well-being for all through the promotion of healthy lifestyles, healthy family functioning, community actions for health and conditions that make it possible to live healthful lives. Students in the program draw on public health, education, psychology, sociology, family science and other social and behavioral sciences while engaging in community involvement and interactive processes to best understand the field.
