If you love watching movies set in the past, reading historical fiction or re-enacting history at military encampments, you understand history is alive. As a Hanover history major, you’ll study much more than just names and dates.

You may delve into the causes of the Holocaust, the sources of Lincoln’s greatness, the role of technology in war, our roles as members of a family, the triumph of Enlightenment rationalism, the meaning of our Constitution and much more. In other words, you learn to search for an interpretation of the past. The Medieval-Renaissance Studies major is an interdepartmental major that will focus your attention on the Middle Ages, the Renaissance and their classical antecedents. This major will give you the structure of discipline-specific courses (including history, literature and art history) and the flexibility of working across scholarly disciplines.

If you want to declare this major, you must have your major programs approved by the Medieval-Renaissance Committee before entering your junior year; subsequent changes in major programs must also be approved by the Committee.

Mathematics students at Hanover learn to reason through problems to find a solution, express ideas clearly and recognize relations among seemingly dissimilar situations. As a mathematics major, you will become a creative thinker who can analyze a wide range of situations. You will master the skill of simplifying the complex. Majors and non-majors alike participate fully in private lessons, solo performances and group performances. Concert Band, College-Community Orchestra, Saxophone Ensemble, Concert Choir and Chamber Singers perform throughout the academic year, both on campus and, in some cases, on international tours. If you are a music major, you can choose between a choral or instrumental program and gain practical experience that launches your career or graduate studies.

In medicine, it’s errors in biochemistry that cause most diseases. That’s why so many students interested in medicine are attracted to the biochemistry major at Hanover.

By focusing on the molecular aspects of biology, especially DNA, you can better understand the chemical processes and reactions that occur in humans and other living creatures. You may also develop a better understanding of food production, how to grow better crops and how to develop biofuels for energy.

With the state-of-the-art human patient simulator, you’ll experience what it’s like to be part of a healthcare team as you diagnose and treat virtual patients.
