Given the strong humanities emphasis within Nebraska Wesleyan’s history program, typically a degree in history is taken as a Bachelor of Arts. Students who combine history with a degree in the Social or Natural Sciences, however, usually take their degree as a Bachelor of Science.

Students majoring in Health and Fitness Studies may pursue interest in such areas as personal training, strength and conditioning training, worksite wellness, health promotions, fitness centers, and graduate school. The B.A. in English requires basic coursework in literature, writing, and language theory, and provides flexibility to students in pursuing additional courses that match their areas of interest and career goals. It can lead to graduate study in English, creative writing, law, or other academic or professional areas.

Foreign language study is strongly encouraged for all English majors.

Each student graduating with a major in English will participate in a senior exit interview, normally in conjunction with ENG 4990 Senior Workshop. This review will provide a means of self-assessment for each student and program assessment for the department.

This BFA Acting program develops your skills as an actor through experiences in the classroom and performance laboratory.

In recent years, our BFA students have participated in an average of six productions per year. You'll draw experience from a season that includes at least one Shakespeare production, other genres ranging from Greek Tragedy to contemporary works, four musicals, and four wekeends of musical theatre cabarets per year, as well as other faculty- and student-directed productions.

The Department of Modern Languages at Nebraska Wesleyan University prepares students to engage in a diverse and changing world through the study of languages, literatures and cultures. Recognizing that the study of language is central to the experience of a liberal arts education, the Department of Modern Languages serves the entire student body through the Archway Curriculum and its Major and Minor programs. At every level, students develop skills in listening, reading, speaking, and writing, equipping them to communicate with global competence.

Modern Language Studies at NWU:
The study of language and cultures is central to the humanities and vital to students as they prepare for professional careers in a globally interconnected society. The Department of Modern Languages offers a broad curriculum with courses in language, culture and literature, supported by interdisciplinary collaboration with departments and programs across the university and through study abroad opportunities.

Students work with advisors to build an individualized course of study in multiple areas of interest. For example, you can combine acting with directing, musical theatre with playwriting, or costume design with stage management.

You can also craft an interdisciplinary BFA degree combining multiple departments in a single course of study, such as theatre design and art history, directing and business management, acting and psychology.

The Bachelor of Arts degree is for those who want a core of chemistry courses with a broader background in the liberal arts.

Students interested in chemical engineering can participate in the Engineering Dual-Degree Program. Chemical Engineering students complete either a B.A. or B.S. degree in Chemistry at NWU and any remaining engineering program requirements at one of our participating schools of engineering.

For students interested in studying pre-health, a program of study emphasizing a strong background in chemistry is available for students planning a future in medicine.

The Bachelor of Arts in music is comprised of a basic core of courses that provides a solid foundation in music. Through advisement, students can develop areas of additional interest such as applied music, music theory/composition, and music history. Minors may also be constructed in other disciplines.

This degree program is geared for the person who wishes to teach theatre arts in a secondary school where the focus of teaching responsibilities is primarily theatre classes. Different than a language arts education degree, this program can lead to a supplemental endorsement in secondary theatre education when combined with a primary area endorsement.

In addition to pursuing a well-rounded theatre curriculum, we encourage theatre education students to work closely with faculty as members in all areas of production to gain foundational knowledge and skills in those areas they'll teach and supervise as theatre educators: acting, directing, costuming, scenography, playwriting, theatre history and management.

As the most popular Health and Human Performance major, nearly 50% of our Exercise Science students apply to graduate schools to study physical therapy, physician’s assistant, chiropractic or occupational therapy. An internship and a full-year of research and statistics are required.

Students interested in health-related professions such as physical therapy, occupational therapy and chiropractics may elect to major in Exercise Science. Students should consult with their advisor regarding pre professional requirements and suggested program of study.
