The Environmental Health and Toxicology concentration in the Environmental Science bachelor’s degree program prepares students to look at their environment critically and assess how changes to their environment can affect their health and the health of their environment

The Molecular Biology concentration is designed for students who have a desire to continue their education through graduate school. This option will prepare students for graduate training programs in the biological sciences, including cellular and molecular biology, immunology, pharmacology and genetics, and will also prepare graduates for entry-level positions in biological research and technology laboratories. This option will also provide a solid foundation for application to health-related professional schools.

Anthropology is the study of all humans, past and present. Per the American Anthropological Association, anthropology helps one to “understand the full sweep and complexity of cultures across all of human history” as it draws from social, biological, and physical sciences, as well as the humanities. The study of anthropology provides you with skills that are useful for living and working in today’s world and interacting with people from many different cultural backgrounds. Anthropology graduates are critical thinkers and effective communicators who are able to be productive members of working groups by generating relevant information and making informed decisions. Anthropological training concentrates on three broadly transferable skill areas — understanding human diversity, building research skills for collecting and making sense of information, and communicating effectively.

The complement of knowledge gained through the study of anthropology is applicable to a wide array of careers. Government, academia, business, and community service organizations are four of the job sectors that many undergraduate anthropology students pursue. Geographic Information System (GIS) is a very important skill for many environmental scientists. This concentration gives students an extensive skill set in GIS that they can use in the job market or as an entry point into graduate school. We also offer the Environmental GIS and GIS double major program so students can earn two degrees, in Environmental GIS and GIS, by taking one additional semester.

The Department of Fine Arts offers the Bachelor of Fine Arts degree with a Graphic Design concentration. You’ll spend most of your time getting practical, hands-on experience, guided by experienced faculty. Class sizes tend to be small which promotes student and faculty interaction. In professional practice, graphic designers create visual concepts, using computer software or by hand, to communicate ideas that inspire, inform, and captivate consumers. They develop the overall layout and production design for applications such as websites, motion graphic animations, advertisements, packaging, magazines, and logos.

Courses in drawing, digital photography, computer graphics, and typography will give you the technical mastery of the skills you’ll need to take a project from conception to completion. You’ll build a professional portfolio, and many AUM Graphic Design students get paid internships at firms like Stamp Idea Group in Montgomery that lead to permanent jobs after graduation.

The Kinesiology programs at Auburn University at Montgomery provide unique opportunities for individuals who want to work in a fast-paced, sport setting.

Exercise Science
The Exercise Science program is a dynamic and exciting major preparing students for careers in human performance, training and conditioning, corporate fitness and wellness.  Clinical and preventive areas of preparation include cardiac rehabilitation, pre-physical therapy and health promotion.  The AUM Exercise Science program is an educationally recognized program (ERP) by the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) for its outstanding program leading to careers in athletic strength conditioning. An internship is required.

The employment world for chemical professionals can be divided into five main sectors: industry, academia, government, non-profit, and entrepreneurship, according to the American Chemical Society. There are many job titles associated with each of these sectors, such as analytical chemist, chemistry teacher, forensic scientist, geochemist, hazardous waste chemist, materials scientist and many more.

Maybe your passion is making that next big scientific discovery, or protecting the environment by analyzing and reporting on contaminated water. The Bachelor of Science in Chemistry degree from AUM’s College of Sciences provides an excellent background for many different careers, prepares you for graduate school, or helps pave the way toward seeking admission to medical school or other professional health degree programs. With its low student-professor ratio, AUM offers you plenty of opportunities to strap on your goggles and join your professors in hands-on research. Choose from three concentrations: Chemistry, Professional Chemistry, and Health Sciences Chemistry.

Although a common career goal of many undergraduate psychology students is to become a psychologist or counselor, there are a number of career paths a student can pursue with a bachelor’s degree in psychology.

As a Psychology major at AUM, you’ll develop critical skills as you apply the scientific method to people’s thoughts, feelings, and actions. You’ll develop abilities that will help you succeed in the business world, law school, and many other careers, including, of course, taking graduate studies to become a professional psychologist. You’ll learn to conceptualize problems, evaluate evidence, and defuse potential conflict as you study the underlying causes of human behavior.

A degree in Economics from AUM provides students with analytical tools and practical skills to succeed in business, finance and government. This is achieved by offering a mix of theoretical and applied courses in economics, the function of markets around the world and optimal criteria for decision-making.
