As an AUM history major, you’ll cultivate a range of skills suitable for a variety of careers. You will also learn from one of the most academically accomplished history faculties in the Southeast; every full-time faculty member has published at least one book in his or her field, and all are active in the profession.

At the most basic level of ability, managers must understand the fields of finance, accounting, marketing, strategy, IT, economics, operations, and human resource management. In later stages of a manager’s development into the executive ranks, he or she needs to understand how organizational processes interrelate and occur within a context. Executives must be able to make sense of societal changes, political drivers, social values, global interaction, and technological change.

Every organization needs educated, skilled leaders who can build effective teams and shepherd projects to completion. AUM’s Management concentration within the Bachelor of Science in Business Administration degree is a solid foundation for a life-long career in business. You’ll learn about organizational behavior and develop the interpersonal and decision-making skills that will allow you to flourish in a variety of business environments. With your degree, you’ll be prepared to work for businesses of all sizes, from small local firms to large multinational organizations. Internships will give you vital real-world experience.

The Bachelor of Interdisciplinary Studies is a distinctive degree plan designed to serve students with unique needs or academic interests. The flexibility of the program makes it ideal for students returning to the university to complete a degree or those who have completed significant credit hours at another institution, military service school, or in another degree plan. The program is designed to provide a solid foundation necessary for graduates to succeed in the computer industry and in graduate studies. In addition to obtaining general computer science training, you will learn multi-core architectures and programming. High Performance Computing is the main theme of this degree program.

A teacher’s influence can last a lifetime. Positively shape the lives of young people with a career in the classroom. Students in grades 6 through 12 need committed educators dedicated to enriching their lives and helping them master the secondary school curriculum. You’ll get a dual degree: one in your content area of expertise — English, math, history/social science, or science— and one in Secondary Education. An internship will give you practical experience in the classroom.

A Secondary Education English Language Arts degree prepares students to teach in the area of English, Theatre, Communication, and Journalism at the middle, junior, and senior high school levels (grades 6-12).

The Kinesiology programs at Auburn University at Montgomery provide unique opportunities for individuals who want to work in a fast-paced, sport setting. A variety of programs are offered, including Exercise Science, Physical Education, and Sport Management.

Environmental scientists use their knowledge of earth’s systems to protect the environment and human health. They do this by cleaning up contaminated areas, making policy recommendations, or working with industry to reduce pollution and waste. Soil and plant scientists, and ecologists often work in remediation efforts, for a sanitation company, in manufacturing, at a university, or for a not-for-profit organization. Other environmental scientists are engaged in environmental policy, planning, and management for local governments, performing research-intensive work. Some professionals in this field have careers at the Environmental Protection Agency, the National Park Service, the United States Geological Survey and other agencies.

Environmental scientists are problem solvers. They research environmental and health problems to determine their causes and come up with solutions. They also use what they learn to make recommendations and develop strategies for managing environmental problems. From wading through swamps studying the impact of encroaching human populations on endangered species, to monitoring pollution levels in lakes and rivers, graduates of AUM’s Environmental Science program get the training needed for a fascinating and rewarding career.

The Environmental Health and Toxicology concentration in the Environmental Science bachelor’s degree program prepares students to look at their environment critically and assess how changes to their environment can affect their health and the health of their environment

If you want to spend your life immersed in the world of history, art, and culture, major in Art History within the Fine Arts Department. In AUM’s interdisciplinary Art History program, you’ll be introduced to the history of Western Civilization through an examination of images, artifacts, buildings, and works of art. Our program offers courses on art from the Ancient world to the Contemporary and encourages students to consider works of art and architecture as dynamic objects that reflect the cultural and social history of the time in which they were made. You’ll also be trained in highly desirable, transferable skills prized by employers, such as visual literacy, critical thinking, primary research, and effective written and oral communication skills.

To meet the needs of today’s organizations — and ensure that its business school students graduate with a set of skills that will set them apart in the marketplace — the College of Business designed its Entrepreneurship program to challenge students in a new way and inspire creative thinking. Our faculty – many of them successful practitioners in their field – deliver hands-on instruction in small-class environments.

The BSBA in Entrepreneurships prepare graduates to:

• Develop an effective, innovative business plan
• Identify and acquire the resources needed for the creation and implementation of a new venture, including financial, human, and managerial resources
• Understand risk and its effect on new ventures and analyze financial data to support business decisions and assessment of business strategies
• Identify, analyze, and understand potential market behaviors that would enhance value creation and profitability
• Lead the entrepreneurial process, from idea generation to the commercialization and implementation of the new business venture

If you want an in-demand career that allows you to play a critical role in the healthcare system, choose the Bachelor of Science in Medical Laboratory Science. You’ll become the go-to person for detecting and diagnosing disease because you’ll be the one analyzing blood, tissue, and other samples. In AUM’s program, you’ll study chemistry, hematology, immunology, immunohematology, and microbiology—and put that theoretical knowledge to work in AUM’s laboratory-based training. Most medical laboratory scientists work in hospitals, but you can also work in:

• Commercial laboratories
• Departments of public health
• Agencies such as the U.S Food and Drug Administration
• Forensic science settings, such as law enforcement, analyzing crime scenes
