With a field that’s as broad as life itself, the biological sciences major gives you ample exposure to help you figure out where you belong within this area of study. Upon graduation you will be well prepared for placement in graduate school; medical, dental, optometry, pharmacy, or veterinary school; and in careers that range from public health to environmental science.

Marine Biology
In marine biology, you will study, protect, and manage the organisms, plants, and animals that live in oceans or saltwater environments. And since the two-thirds of the Earth's surface is covered with water, you'll have plenty of research material.

You have diverse interests and a desire to affect positive change. You see the world and yourself as a work in progress.

You like to visit art galleries whenever you have a chance to gaze upon the works of great artists.

Art History
Learn about a broad spectrum of artistic expression. The LSU art history program is among the finest and most comprehensive in the South. Our faculty members offer an extensive range of courses in the history of European, American, and Asian art, design, and new media.

Learn about nutrition and the research, development, packaging, and distribution of our food supply. At LSU, you will participate in hands-on learning, professional development, and faculty-led research to prepare for a health-related profession or career in business or agriculture.

Dietetics: Gain the knowledge necessary to take the exam to become a registered dietician. Registered dietitians provide expertise in nutrition and food service management in a variety of settings.

Learn about the properties and composition of matter and the interactions and alterations of substances. Chemistry is at the core of most scientific disciplines, including the study of polymers, biotechnology, pollution control, and energy. There are nine available concentrations, which will allow you to narrow your focus to the career track that works best for you or help you prepare for graduate study.

In this program, you can expect to gain a wide-ranging view of world issues while focusing on a particular geographic region or areas such as global diplomacy. In international studies, you will also have opportunities to participate in study abroad programs and develop in-depth knowledge of the languages and cultures of your chosen area.

• Middle East: The concentration in the Middle East focuses on the religion, politics, art, and literature of the Middle East and North Africa. The concentration includes the Arab world, as well as important bordering states such as Turkey and Iran. This is a region with a rich history and tradition which has been a preoccupation of recent United States foreign policy.

The Bachelor of Music prepares you for a career as a professional musician or composer. It also serves as the gateway to graduate-level studies in music.

This curriculum is diverse with opportunities to study forest management of hardwood and pine forests, wetlands, wildlife, conservation biology, fisheries, aquaculture, habitat management, or prepare for a career as a wildlife-oriented veterinarian. Curricula emphasizes field instruction. Unique facilities available through this curriculum include the School of Renewable Natural Resources’ Lee Memorial Forest, an actively managed forest, which has accommodations and teaching facilities so that you can get hands-on experience in the field.

Forest Enterprise: Learn about the business aspects of forestry and wood products. Forestry is the largest agricultural sector in Louisiana, and forest products and enterprises contribute greatly to local, state, and national economies.

Whether it’s discovering a new particle or blasting a rocket into space, physics is at the root of everything. Here you will learn about energy and matter, electromagnetism, quantum mechanics, the birth of the universe, and Einstein’s special theory of relativity. Our program will prepare you for graduate school in physics, leading to careers as a college professor, as a scientist at a government agency (like NASA), or in high-tech industry.

Medical Physics
This is for students interested in careers in medical physics and health physics or those intending to pursue a physics degree as a pre-med student. In this concentration you will take courses in chemistry, biology, and kinesiology, as well as core physics and specialized medical physics courses.

If you want to work behind the scenes (and sometimes in front of the camera) in the sport industry, then this is the major for you. Sport administration is designed to teach you the fundamentals behind managing the complex and ever-changing sport industry. You will get real-world experience and may one day become commissioner of the NCAA.
