Optional Practical Training or OPT is a period during which students, who have completed their degrees in the USA, are permitted to work for one year on a student visa by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). OPT allows students to work for up to 3 years and develop real-world skills to survive in the competitive jobs market.
It is temporary employment for a period of 12-months that is directly related to the major area of study of an F-1 student. Eligible students have the option to apply for OPT employment authorization before completing their academic studies and/or after completing their academic studies.
A student can participate in three types of Optional Practical Training (OPT):

Undergraduate Extended Accelerator Pathway (3-Term) - Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering
Civil engineers work on the design, construction, and maintenance of the infrastructure systems we use every day and/or in surveying and coastal subsidence projects. Sub-disciplines include: mechanics of materials (steel, concrete, timber, pavement etc.), structures (bridges, buildings, etc.), water resources (rivers, levees, etc.), transportation (traffic systems, highways, and roadways), geotechnical (soils, foundations, and coastal subsidence), and geodesy (surveying). Graduates may work for structural design firms or the petrochemical industry, but often work for government entities such as the Department of Transportation or U.S. Army Corp of Engineers.

Undergraduate Extended Accelerator Pathway (3-Term) - Bachelor of Science in Natural Resource Ecology and Management with Concentration in Wildlife Habitat Conservation and Management
This curriculum is diverse with opportunities to study forest management of hardwood and pine forests, wetlands, wildlife, conservation biology, fisheries, aquaculture, habitat management, or prepare for a career as a wildlife-oriented veterinarian. Curricula emphasizes field instruction. Unique facilities available through this curriculum include the School of Renewable Natural Resources’ Lee Memorial Forest, an actively managed forest, which has accommodations and teaching facilities so that you can get hands-on experience in the field.
Wildlife Habitat Conservation and Management: Learn how to manage habitats to promote wildlife. You may take one of two paths: one focuses on wetland wildlife habitat, while the other offers greater experience with forest management, including an eight-week forestry camp off campus at Lee Memorial Forest.

Classical Civilization
The Classical Civilization concentration allows you to explore the culture and history of ancient Greece and Rome. In this concentration, you will learn to read Latin or Greek and can continue to pursue advanced language work and/or interests in the classical world. The curriculum includes courses in art history, classical studies (in translation), history, linguistics, philosophy, political science, and religious studies.
