Civil engineers work on the design, construction, and maintenance of the infrastructure systems we use every day and/or in surveying and coastal subsidence projects. Sub-disciplines include: mechanics of materials (steel, concrete, timber, pavement etc.), structures (bridges, buildings, etc.), water resources (rivers, levees, etc.), transportation (traffic systems, highways, and roadways), geotechnical (soils, foundations, and coastal subsidence), and geodesy (surveying). Graduates may work for structural design firms or the petrochemical industry, but often work for government entities such as the Department of Transportation or U.S. Army Corp of Engineers.

This curriculum is diverse with opportunities to study forest management of hardwood and pine forests, wetlands, wildlife, conservation biology, fisheries, aquaculture, habitat management, or prepare for a career as a wildlife-oriented veterinarian. Curricula emphasizes field instruction. Unique facilities available through this curriculum include the School of Renewable Natural Resources’ Lee Memorial Forest, an actively managed forest, which has accommodations and teaching facilities so that you can get hands-on experience in the field.

Wildlife Habitat Conservation and Management: Learn how to manage habitats to promote wildlife. You may take one of two paths: one focuses on wetland wildlife habitat, while the other offers greater experience with forest management, including an eight-week forestry camp off campus at Lee Memorial Forest.

In this program, you can expect to gain a wide-ranging view of world issues while focusing on a particular geographic region or areas such as global diplomacy. In international studies, you will also have opportunities to participate in study abroad programs and develop in-depth knowledge of the languages and cultures of your chosen area.

• Global Studies: The concentration in global studies is a very broad concentration covering any topics which fall across multiple regions of the world. Much of international relations, global climate concerns, third world development, world population and globalization fit under this concentration.

You have diverse interests and a desire to affect positive change. You see the world and yourself as a work in progress.

You are intrigued by the accomplishments and foundations of knowledge that arose from ancient cultures.

Classical Civilization
The Classical Civilization concentration allows you to explore the culture and history of ancient Greece and Rome. In this concentration, you will learn to read Latin or Greek and can continue to pursue advanced language work and/or interests in the classical world. The curriculum includes courses in art history, classical studies (in translation), history, linguistics, philosophy, political science, and religious studies.

Learn how raw products move from farm to table, including all of the functions of agricultural business. This major will allow you to focus on management, marketing, finance, and economics, while addressing questions and concerns involving the economics and sociology of agriculture, natural resources, and rural communities.

Rural Development: This curriculum prepares you for a career in which you can assist local governments in nonprofit sectors to improve the livelihood and sustainability of rural areas.

Through the textiles, apparel, and merchandising curriculum, you can work toward your dream by taking advantage of its unique learning opportunities to gain technical and creative knowledge. Refine your critical thinking skills, gain expertise in the area of product development, and learn how to market your final product to consumers in a global marketplace. Ecological Restoration: Use the principles of forestry and natural resource management to conserve and restore impacted landscapes.

If you’re a natural-born “mathlete,” a degree in mathematics can lead to a career in many exciting areas, including actuarial science, mathematics, statistics, and secondary education. You can also pursue a graduate degree or professional degree in fields such as law and business.

Computational Mathematics
In this area of concentration, your course work will focus on the mathematics behind numerical procedures and computer algorithms. It is recommended for students interested in careers grappling with tomorrow’s large-scale numerical problems.
