Physics majors can select from two curricular options: a B.A. or B.S. in Physics. The B.A. gives students the flexibility to combine physics with another focus area in an interdisciplinary program, in particular Physics Education, Biophysics, Information Technology/Data Science, or Technical Writing.

The Zoology and Pre-veterinary Track is designed for students seeking entrance into a veterinary medical program or graduate school in an animal biology related field.  In addition to core Biology courses in Genetics and Evolutionary Biology, this track emphasizes courses in Physiology, Animal Behavior and Comparative Vertebrate Anatomy.  Additional courses in Mammalogy, Ornithology, Herpetology and Ichthyology will broaden the student’s experience.  Moreover, electives such as Vertebrate Evolution and Ecology, and Zoo & Aquarium Management as well as lab courses in Anatomy, and Embryology/Development will prepare students to succeed in veterinary school or any graduate program in animal biology.  Students can also acquire hands-on experience and earn independent study credit through established connections with organizations such as the Central Florida Zoo, Back To Nature, and the Birds of Prey Center of Maitland.

he Legal Studies program provides students with a broad understanding of basic principles of the law and the role and function of the legal system. In addition to preparing students for law-related careers, the program provides a solid foundation for law school. While no specific major is required for admission to law school, a degree in Legal Studies presents students with an unparalleled opportunity for law school preparation. All Legal Studies faculty are graduates of ABA-approved law schools, and practice/have practiced law.

Legal Studies students are encouraged to work closely with their program advisor in planning degree completion and career goals. Satisfactory completion of program requirements leads to the degree of Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) or Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Legal Studies. The B.A. requires two semesters of college-level foreign language; the B.S. requires two years of high school foreign language.

An information technology degree from UCF prepares you to drive efficiency and productivity throughout businesses — providing them with better service and value. You’ll gain an understanding about maintaining computer equipment and software, as well as the skills to help improve business processes and innovative ways to use information resources to serve customers. Courses cover how to create, manage and support information in a variety of forms, arming you with the skills necessary in today’s technically-focused workplace.

Take what you learn in the classroom and apply it to real-world experiences through internships at leading tech companies, from Central Florida Research Park to downtown Orlando. This hands-on work is a great way to build your technical skills and demonstrate your communication, teamwork and leadership abilities.

The Journalism B.A. provides students with the skills and knowledge leading to careers in electronic and digital media. It is a limited-access degree program, which means a separate application must be submitted directly to the Nicholson School of Communication and Media in order to be considered for admission. Students choose from two focus areas:

• Digital News. For students who wish to work as writers, reporters, editors and photographers for the news media, primarily websites, newspapers and magazines.
• Electronic News. For students who desire to work in broadcast news as reporters, photographers, anchors or broadcast sports journalists.

The B.S. in Mechanical Engineering program helps you gain an understanding of core concepts such as mechanics, kinematics, thermodynamics, materials science, structural analysis and electricity. You’ll pair these core principles with tools like computer-aided design software to design and analyze manufacturing plants, industrial equipment and machinery, cars, aircraft, robotics, medical devices and much more.

The mechanical engineering department boasts esteemed international faculty and a dedicated staff who ensure that you gain the skills needed to achieve your personal and professional goals. Throughout your coursework, you’ll get hands-on experience in applying the principles of engineering, science and mathematics to model, analyze, design and realize physical systems, components and processes. The Sociology degree, which may be completed online, face-to-face, or as a mix of online and face-to-face courses, has two major goals: 1) to promote undergraduate student excellence and 2) to advance career success for graduates by providing them with tangible, career-oriented skills. A dedicated faculty offers state-of-the-art courses that are relevant to current issues affecting our students' lives and their future careers. Graduates are prepared for careers that require employees who think critically and have analytic and technical skills related to understanding crime, law, and deviance; medical sociology; diversity and inequalities; and/or mass culture and collective behavior. All students complete individual, original research projects.

The School of Communication Sciences and Disorders houses the Communication Disorders Clinic, located in Research Park. The clinic provides services for individuals with communication impairments in Central Florida, while also giving students hands-on experience in the field.
