Work Permit USA

Optional Practical Training or OPT is a period during which students, who have completed their degrees in the USA, are permitted to work for one year on a student visa by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). OPT allows students to work for up to 3 years and develop real-world skills to survive in the competitive jobs market.

It is temporary employment for a period of 12-months that is directly related to the major area of study of an F-1 student. Eligible students have the option to apply for OPT employment authorization before completing their academic studies and/or after completing their academic studies.

A student can participate in three types of Optional Practical Training (OPT):

  1. Pre-Completion OPT: This is temporary employment provided to F-1 students before completion of their course of study.
  2. Post-Completion OPT: This is temporary employment available to F-1 students after completing their course of study.
  3. 24 Month STEM Extension: Students enrolled in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) courses can a 24-month extension after their initial Post-Completion OPT authorization.

Bachelor of Science in Nursing

As a UD Nursing major, you'll prepare to be a knowledgeable, adaptable and reflective healthcare practitioner. The program is a unique partnership with Sinclair Community College’s Associate Degree in Nursing program — top in Ohio for success of its graduates on the NCLEX nursing exam. This partnership allows students to become a registered nurse (RN) after their third year, and if they desire, work while finishing the BSN program at UD.

The curriculum incorporates both liberal arts and science courses, which help students develop clinical reasoning and intuition. You'll apply evidence-based practices to impact change in health practices both locally and globally. The program integrates Quality and Safety Education for Nurses (QSEN) Core Competencies, the Essentials of Baccalaureate Education for Professional Nursing Practice (The BSN Essentials), and the UD Marianist educational philosophy of educating the whole person.

Students majoring in Management (MGT) will build global leadership competencies by acquiring a deeper understanding of business and cultural practices while at the same time building a leadership skill set. Features of the major:

  • Bookend experience that launches students into the major and concludes with an experiential learning experience
  • Leadership skills built via coursework, hands-on exercises, examination of personal assets/strengths and putting both into practice with application of knowledge and skills to applied problems.
  • Project management skills obtained by working on case studies and hands-on projects throughout the major

Upon graduation, students will possess a breadth of business knowledge and abilities enabling them to assess complex problems in business settings and to lead the implementation of effective, innovative, and transformative solutions.

Our Mechanical Engineering Technology program offers technical courses that teach you to use creativity and rational thinking to solve problems in design, manufacturing and management, as well as science and mathematics courses that provide you a solid foundation for future studies or career development.

With our small class sizes, faculty members with real-world engineering experience, and state-of-the-art laboratory facilities, we utilize hands-on learning to equip students with applied engineering knowledge and skills. Career opportunities for mechanical engineering technology graduates are in mechanical design, computer-aided design, product evaluation and development, manufacturing engineering, computer-aided manufacturing, plant engineering, technical sales, technical service, fluid power, automation, and technical management.
