The issues facing us today are increasingly global in nature. The context in which we lead our professional and personal lives is steadily becoming more multicultural and global in scope, demanding new levels of international knowledge - knowledge beyond just geography, a few phrases of a foreign language, and a guide book.

People have been exploring ideas and expressing their thoughts and feelings by producing art throughout history. By studying art history, you will learn how art embodies and controls cultural, economic, gender, political, religious and social dynamics.

Economics is a social science and as such an important component of the liberal arts curriculum. It provides a useful background for students interested in careers in public policy, business or finance.

Students who study economics investigate the allocation of scarce resources. The foundation of economics is based on theories of how people, institutions and governments make choices and interact. Some of the topics that a student of economics studies are: pricing, the effects of taxing and regulation by the government, inflation, income distribution and international trade.

Because Economics straddles the worlds of business and social science, the demand for economics majors is strong in both the public and private sector. Economics is also great preparation for graduate school in fields as diverse as business, law, and public policy.

Our graduates work to advance the common good through computing innovation and information security. Their potential impacts range from increasing computing efficiency and improving quality of life to informing policy legislation, deriving business intelligence solutions, improving health care and education, and combating cyber threats.

Our students are taught by an outstanding array of scholar-teachers in areas of inquiry that include American politics, public law, public administration, international relations, comparative politics, public policy, environmental politics, urban politics and political theory.

In addition to our rigorous academic program, students are provided with many opportunities to work side-by-side with faculty on research projects such as developing improved flame retardants, studying biodegradation of polymer coatings and discovering new photodynamic lung cancer treatments. Recent graduates are employed as scientists in academia, industry and government, or pursuing postgraduate education.

As a UD Nursing major, you'll prepare to be a knowledgeable, adaptable and reflective healthcare practitioner. The program is a unique partnership with Sinclair Community College’s Associate Degree in Nursing program — top in Ohio for success of its graduates on the NCLEX nursing exam. This partnership allows students to become a registered nurse (RN) after their third year, and if they desire, work while finishing the BSN program at UD.

The curriculum incorporates both liberal arts and science courses, which help students develop clinical reasoning and intuition. You'll apply evidence-based practices to impact change in health practices both locally and globally. The program integrates Quality and Safety Education for Nurses (QSEN) Core Competencies, the Essentials of Baccalaureate Education for Professional Nursing Practice (The BSN Essentials), and the UD Marianist educational philosophy of educating the whole person.

Students dive deep into rhetoric and composition, learning about language and the context in which it is written and read.

As a UD Foreign Language Education major, you'll learn the knowledge and skills necessary to meet the needs of our changing and global world — and prepare others to do the same. Upon graduation, you'll be prepared to teach French, German or Spanish to students in Pre-Kindergarten through grade 12.
