Preparing environmental policy and management professionals, our nationally-recognized BA in Environmental Science program integrates policy, management, and law with the natural sciences. Students gain practical experiences at the intersection of science and policy through coursework and real-world problem solving in our senior capstone course, internships, research, and cooperative education programs. Majors may focus their studies on policy and management (Policy and Management Track), policy-earth systems (Earth and Hydrologic Science Track), and policy-marine systems (Marine Science Track).

• Students will be able to apply the scientific method and design appropriate experiments to answer environmental science questions.  
• Students will understand the contributions of laboratory, field, and survey data collection and analysis for approaching environmental science problems.
• Students will be able to analyze and critique environmental questions across multiple natural and social science perspectives and research approaches.
• Students will demonstrate analytical and quantitative proficiencies to analyze environmental and/or social science data.
• Students will understand the system interactions and feedbacks between human activities and social institutions and the natural environment.
• Students will be experienced in communicating their learnings both in writing, visually, and orally, and for specific and general audiences.

In keeping with the mission of UMass Boston, the faculty and staff of the Biology Department are committed to providing the highest quality experiences for students. The Ethics, Social and Political Philosophy Major (ESP) is designed for students whose primary philosophical interests are in value questions as they relate to the individual, society and the state, who wish to pursue these questions systematically and in-depth, and who may seek careers in the law, government, social service, or other fields where moral issues and value questions frequently arise.

UMass Boston's Department of Modern Languages, Literatures, and Cultures (MLLC) offers a diverse and engaging curriculum, with courses focusing on language, literary, cultural, and film studies. Management major prepares students for specific management responsibilities and results in a bachelor of science degree from the College of Management (CM) at UMass Boston. The program is built on a solid foundation in the arts and humanities achieved by completing CM's general education requirements while also being immersed in business theory and practice.

Entrepreneurship is one of the fastest-growing areas of business, and one of the major directions of management education. The entrepreneurship concentration is closely connected to the College of Management’s Entrepreneurship Center (EC), and the concentration draws on the EC’s vision and strategy:

The Entrepreneurship Center provides core knowledge and expertise for starting new businesses, creating innovations in growing companies, and thriving in high-growth environments. Through university-wide courses and hands-on learning, we provide a complete toolkit for every student–fundamentals and opportunities for career-long entrepreneurship. The entrepreneurship concentration allows students to develop skills in entrepreneurial innovation and action, effective communication, capitalizing on opportunities, and new business creation and growth. Interdisciplinary electives let students focus on e-commerce, international venturing, operational innovation, or starting their own company with mentoring from successful entrepreneurs.

Employers in today’s economic environment actively seek competent, committed individuals for a variety of upwardly mobile careers in the field of marketing. The marketing concentration provides students with an in-depth understanding of the most current thinking and practices in strategic marketing techniques along with the analytical, communication, and computer skills their employers expect.

The international management concentration seeks to broaden students’ horizons and prepare them for the increasingly global business world. This concentration will help students understand both the economic and political forces shaping the world economy and the implications for management practices. Students will gain an appreciation of the diverse economies and cultures of different countries.

The Computer Science Department offers a BA degree in Computer Science. It provides a similar education in the theory and practice of computer science with more of an emphasis on outside humanities. Either degree can be used as a basis for many jobs in industry or for graduate work in computer science and other fields.
