Linguistics majors at the University of Mississippi learn the layers of intertwined systems of language (sound, meaning, organization and context) and study phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics, and pragmatics. The Ole Miss Hospitality Management program prepares students to handle a wide array of needs across the hospitality industry. Valuable hands-on experiences enables students to receive the academic foundation and practical experience needed to be successful after graduation.

Students who complete the program in hospitality management choose among many of the job settings in the growing hospitality industry, such as restaurants and food-service operations, hotels and other lodging facilities, event companies, resorts, casinos, entertainment centers, convention centers, travel firms, and visitor bureaus.

Emphasis - General Program
The B.S.E.E. with general emphasis provides broad training in basic and engineering sciences and fundamental knowledge of electrical engineering. The general emphasis provides greater flexibility for a student to choose 14 credit hours of technical elective courses from a breadth of electrical engineering topical areas.

Political science majors at the University of Mississippi conduct policy analysis and study political actors and organizations within the context of American government and politics, comparative government and politics, and international relations. The department offers optional emphases in Campaigns & Elections, International Conflict & Cooperation, Politics of Developing Countries, or Law & Courts.

The Bachelor of Music curriculum prepares students to become professional musicians or vocalists, to teach music at the K-12 levels, or for graduate or professional school. Students select a concentration in instrumental, keyboard, or vocal training.

The B.M. in music is offered for students seeking a university education that includes preparation for careers in music teaching or performance. The B.M. degree is available in the following emphases: music performance and music education.

The B.M. in music with emphasis in music performance prepares students to become professional musicians (performing as woodwind, brass, string, or percussion instrumentalists, pianists or vocalists) and/or for graduate or professional school. This emphasis can be completed with a concentration (option) in piano, instrumental, or vocal as principal instrument.

A Bachelor of Science in Geology allows students to study the composition and structure of the earth, earth history (environments and life), natural hazards (earthquakes, tsunamis, volcanism, etc), mineral and energy extraction, surface and groundwater, ocean processes, and more.

Art history majors at the University of Mississippi learn about monuments, artists and artistic periods. Students learn art studio fundamentals, understand art theory and criticism, conduct research, and discern the hidden/not-so-hidden ideas behind works of art.

Students will navigate the stimulating and diverse world of English-language literatures. They may also select an emphasis in creative writing where they develop their own voice. Students complete a literary interpretation course, courses across five literature periods or groups, and a capstone course with a significant research and writing component.
