The Master of Music is an advanced professional degree designed to develop a particular area in music to a high level of specialization. The university offers the M.M. with the following emphases:

• Performance in woodwind, brass, string, or percussion instruments, piano, and voice;
• Music education;

• Ethnomusicology;
• Collaborative piano.

Emphasis - Music Education
The M.M. degree with an emphasis in music education is designed to give the student advanced training in music and K-12 music education and/or prepares him/her for study at the doctoral level.

The B.A. in theatre arts is a comprehensive, flexible degree that allows students to study various aspects of theatre such as performance ( acting, musical theatre, dance), theatrical production (stage management, directing), design (scenic, costumes, lighting, sound), film production, dramaturgy, theatre history, and dramatic literature. The B.A. degree is designed for students who want to teach, to pursue graduate education, to work in the entertainment industry, or to complement a double major or dual degree program.

The B.B.A. in Economics is for students who wish to enter the corporate world directly upon graduation. Students use mathematical and statistical models to analyze issues such as tax structure, deregulation, public welfare spending, mergers, acquisitions, and employee compensation programs.

With a Bachelor of Business Administration degree, you will be ready to enter the corporate world or government right after graduation. Not only will you emerge with an understanding of the field itself, you’ll gain skills in statistics, mathematics, organization, research methodology, and verbal and written communication.

What will you learn?
Economics is an amazing social science, providing insight for business, public policy and human behavior in general. It underlies successful business practices and effective government policy.

You will study how markets work to determine what is produced, how it’s produced, and how income is distributed. You’ll delve into the role and impact of international trade, the effect of monopoly on the economy, and the problems of unemployment and inflation.

Study the nature and development of our communication abilities and learn about disorders involving impairments in hearing, speech, voice, resonance, fluency, swallowing, and language processes

Students are introduced to anatomy and physiology of speech and hearing mechanisms; phonology; human development; disorders in fluency, voice, articulation, expressive and receptive language and learning and the programs and methods used to treat these disorders.

The B.A. in biochemistry is designed for students who intend to pursue a career in medicine, dentistry, or other health-related fields. The curriculum associated with this degree program closely follows the recommendations of the American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (ASBMB), and it prepares students to take the MCAT and DAT.

The M.A. in history is offered as either a thesis or nonthesis option. Students in the M.A. program may study a variety of topics and chronological sweeps of American and European history, as well as much of the histories of Africa, Latin America, and East Asia.

Marketing students learn how to research target audiences, advise on how to develop products for consumer desires, and determine product pricing structure. Students learn to select effective channels to communicate with customers and develop and implement promotional strategies.

Marketing is a creative, fast-paced industry. Our faculty will help you get inside the mind of prospective customers so you’ll know how to promote, develop, and sell products to them. Remember, without a plan, there is no sale!

Emphasis - Marketing Analytics
The emphasis in marketing analytics focuses on the way data can help make marketing decisions and assess marketing effectiveness. The emphasis includes hands-on experience using industry-standard software for analytical tasks, including preparing and managing data sets, exploring consumer and market data, and predictive modeling.

The M.S. degree in chemistry is designed for students who intend to seek employment as a professional chemist or who plan to pursue the D.A. degree in chemistry at UM. This program requires the submission of a thesis based on original laboratory or theoretical research.

The Department of Modern Languages offers the M.A. in modern languages with emphases in French, German, linguistics, Spanish, and teaching English as a second language (TESOL).

To study English is to explore the power of texts in expressing human cultures and imaginations and to hone foundational skills in argumentation and analysis through writing and research.

English majors at the University of Mississippi encounter novels, poems, stories, epics, plays, films, autobiographies and more from the year 449 CE to today. Students will navigate the stimulating and diverse world of English-language literatures. They may also select an emphasis in creative writing where they develop their own voice. Students complete a literary interpretation course, courses across five literature periods or groups, and a capstone course with a significant research and writing component.

Literature and literary studies are at the core of the humanities and at the center of debates concerning culture, politics, education, and language. The program of study in English not only enriches students' appreciation of literature and engages them in cultural debate but helps develop crucial skills in analytical thinking and clear, persuasive expression both in speech and in writing. An English degree is an ideal gateway for careers that emphasize communication and critical thinking including law, business, journalism, public service, and education.
