The Master of Science in food and nutrition services degree prepares students for doctoral studies in nutrition, food service management, or hospitality management for postsecondary teaching positions, or for careers in established or emerging clinical or industrial settings. The program is designed to provide students with a broad background in nutrition, food service management, or hospitality management; development of necessary analytical skills; and exposure to current nutrition, food service management, and hospitality management research.

At its core, computer science involves the rigorous study of processes, a series of actions to achieve some desired result. In particular, it is the study of processes carried out by computers. Computer science students learn how to define processes and encode them so that they can be carried out efficiently by computers. This involves such tasks as determining what result is needed (systems analysis), developing efficient and flexible software to encode the process (algorithm design, programming, and software engineering), and organizing the data needed and generated by the process (data structures and database management). They also learn how to use the technologies of computers, communication technologies, and the control programs work together to effectively achieve the desired results.

The major in computer science for the B.A. degree offers a flexible curriculum that enables the study of computer science to be combined with studies in other areas of the liberal arts and sciences.

Linguistics majors at the University of Mississippi learn the layers of intertwined systems of language (sound, meaning, organization and context) and study phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics, and pragmatics. They explore the relationship between language and social factors such as region, ethnicity, gender, and identity; and how language is acquired and changes over time.

The study of linguistics, often referred to as the "science of language," provides students with an understanding of the sound systems, words, and sentence structures of language, both individually and comparatively.

History majors at the University of Mississippi take a range of courses across American and European history as well as history of other regions. They take at least one advanced research course where they utilize primary resources to address questions of historical importance.

The study of history explores our shared and diverse past, providing an essential context and perspective on the contemporary world. Studying history enhances a student's ability to think and reason, to communicate effectively, and to organize systematically, evaluate, and interpret information. These are essential skills demanded of today's young professionals and graduate students.

The law studies program is designed for the student who wishes to pursue a career as a paralegal or legal assistant.

The General Engineering program at University of Mississippi is heavily rooted in mathematics, science, and core engineering coursework, but offers a breadth and flexibility not offered by other programs in order to enable students to tailor a program of study to suit their interests and career goals.

A general engineering background provides you with an understanding of the core math, scientific and technical principles needed for engineering. You’ll learn about problem-solving, as well as gain teamwork, leadership and communications skills.

You’ll explore the various engineering directions offered at Ole Miss in your first year in the general engineering program.

With a bachelor degree in engineering, you’ll be equipped for many engineering – and non-engineering – career paths. This could be as a project engineer, medical doctor, lawyer, military, business person and many other opportunities.

In general engineering, you will get:

• Degree choice – with the more specialized Bachelor of Science degree, you’ll take additional engineering science and engineering elective courses. With a Bachelor of Engineering, you get the core engineering science principles plus the flexibility to broaden your course selection outside of engineering.
• Tailored program – you can choose an emphasis in business, manufacturing, pre-law, pre-med, ROTC studies and secondary education – or one designed around your career interests.
• Opportunity to change to another engineering department – you can switch to a more specialized degree if you meet the academic requirements.

The B.B.A. in Economics is for students who wish to enter the corporate world directly upon graduation. Students use mathematical and statistical models to analyze issues such as tax structure, deregulation, public welfare spending, mergers, acquisitions, and employee compensation programs.

With a Bachelor of Business Administration degree, you will be ready to enter the corporate world or government right after graduation. Not only will you emerge with an understanding of the field itself, you’ll gain skills in statistics, mathematics, organization, research methodology, and verbal and written communication.

What will you learn?
Economics is an amazing social science, providing insight for business, public policy and human behavior in general. It underlies successful business practices and effective government policy.

You will study how markets work to determine what is produced, how it’s produced, and how income is distributed. You’ll delve into the role and impact of international trade, the effect of monopoly on the economy, and the problems of unemployment and inflation.

The B.A. in classics is an interdisciplinary degree involving the study of ancient Greek and Latin, literature in translation, history, classical archaeology, and art history.

The B.A. in biochemistry is designed for students who intend to pursue a career in medicine, dentistry, or other health-related fields. The curriculum associated with this degree program closely follows the recommendations of the American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (ASBMB), and it prepares students to take the MCAT and DAT.
