Our criminal justice program promotes state-of-the-art research and instruction in subject areas that are crucial to the effective and orderly working of modern society.

You will learn theories of and responses to social deviance, law and the legal system, administration theory and evaluation, law enforcement, juvenile justice systems and procedures, and crime prevention models. You will also be able to attend numerous conferences and lectures to broaden your professional perspective.

As a criminal justice major, you will also have the opportunity to participate in a hands-on internship experience that will add to your educational experience. You can gain additional experience by participating in the Campus Patrol Office program, which offers students who qualify an opportunity to gain hands-on experience as an employee of the University of South Carolina Division of Law Enforcement and Safety. As a geophysics major, you will benefit from a combination of quality classroom education, laboratory experience and field-based activities. You will focus on the physics of the earth and its atmosphere, including seismology, oceanography and volcanology.

You will also have the unique opportunity to complete a field-based course to get valuable hands-on experience with practical geophysical techniques for exploring the shallow subsurface. This opportunity synergizes your education in geophysics to understanding the earth's formation in an observational setting.

As a global studies major, you will focus on themes relating to globalization while learning to appreciate the world’s diversity. To achieve this end, this major requires students to focus on a particular world region and to attain proficiency in a modern foreign language.

Students in the Global Studies Program will focus on one of four themes: global health, global conflict and security, global sustainability and development, and global cultures. These themes, along with the major components around which the degree program is structured, will prepare students for careers where an understanding of urgent global issues is required, and where an ability to work with people from a variety of cultures is indispensable.

Someone has to decide what those screens look like ... what they mean. Someone has to make them relevant. Someone needs to make them beautiful.

Whether you're interested in filmmaking, game design, animation, internet art, manga, mobile media or worlds beyond, a degree in media arts at South Carolina will prepare you to be a creator in tomorrow's media landscape. Our students are agile, independent artists who are driving the next wave in media culture. South Carolina is blessed with a coast full of beautiful beaches as well as estuaries and tidal areas teeming with marine life. Take advantage of hands-on learning opportunities that allow you to participate in a multitude of research experiences along our precious coast and around the world.

As a marine science major, you will obtain interdisciplinary knowledge in marine science as well as core knowledge in an area of emphasis chosen from among biological oceanography, chemical oceanography, physical oceanography, geological oceanography or coastal resource management and marine policy.

The Film and Media Studies Program is devoted to the critical study of media culture. In a world where we interact daily with one screen after another—on our cell phones, televisions, mobile devices as well as at the multiplex—our students gain the knowledge and skills for understanding and engaging the work of screen media in society.

Courses in the Film and Media Studies major cultivate essential media literacy skills, investigate media history from an international perspective, and engage the central methods and concepts of the discipline.

By working closely with program faculty, you have the opportunity to undertake advanced research on almost any aspect of media culture—from early Hollywood to contemporary Asian cinema and European television, from home movies and experimental films to selfies and social networks, from problems of industrial organization to questions of genre development and social habit.

The Master of Science in Sport and Entertainment Management (MSEM) is a 36-credit hour degree program designed to train students for management and leadership careers in sport, entertainment and venue industries.
