Graduate programs in civil and environmental engineering provide students with expertise in a subfield of civil and environmental engineering, an opportunity for an in-depth research experience at the frontiers of these fields, and skills for life-long learning and professional development. Our research projects stem from many areas of civil and environmental engineering and are often conducted by multidisciplinary teams and researchers of different backgrounds.

A graduate degree in electrical engineering may improve your career by equipping you to work on advanced projects or enabling you to transition to a new career in research or teaching. Our master's degrees in electrical engineering prepare students for specialized and supervisory positions in a variety of work environments, and our doctoral degree prepares students for academia and high-level research and development jobs. As a global studies major, you will focus on themes relating to globalization while learning to appreciate the world’s diversity. To achieve this end, this major requires students to focus on a particular world region and to attain proficiency in a modern foreign language.

Students in the Global Studies Program will focus on one of four themes: global health, global conflict and security, global sustainability and development, and global cultures. These themes, along with the major components around which the degree program is structured, will prepare students for careers where an understanding of urgent global issues is required, and where an ability to work with people from a variety of cultures is indispensable.

Economics majors in the College of Arts and Sciences may earn the B.S. by completing the 24-hour major requirement along with the college core, distribution requirements and cultural-awareness and writing-emphasis requirements as described in the basic degree requirements in liberal arts.

In addition to courses within your major, students in the College of Arts and Sciences must fulfill a cognate or minor. The cognate is intended to support the course work in the major, and it must consist of 12 hours of courses at the advanced level, outside of but related to, the major. In place of the cognate, B.A. students can choose a minor consisting of at least 18 credit hours of prescribed courses.

• All BFA Studio Art undergraduate students will define and explain development of art, within their own and other cultures, from pre-history to the present.
• All BFA Studio Art undergraduate students will critically analyze aspects of the design and art making process and evaluate theories, philosophies, and research in the practice of the studio arts.
• All BFA Studio Art undergraduate students will, through their artwork, demonstrate their competency of aesthetic literacy.

The Department of Marketing at the Moore School is widely acclaimed for its scholarly expertise in various facets of consumer psychology, marketing strategy, research methods, behavioral pricing and marketing communications. It offers an undergraduate concentration in marketing as well as two Ph.D. concentrations — consumer behavior and marketing analysis.

The Department of Marketing offers an undergraduate marketing major focusing on the process of planning and executing the development, pricing, distributions and promotion of services, products and ideas. The marketing major also covers the study of economic, cultural, demographic and attitudinal factors that influence demand for products and services.

It takes a lot of expertise to analyze, plan, design and build our modern world. With a master’s degree in civil engineering, you’ll be prepared to work with a range of clients and collaborators, from government agencies to private firms.

If you are interested in research, the University of South Carolina has several research centers and groups available to you, including the Structural Dynamics and Intelligent Infrastructure laboratory, the Berge laboratory for green waste management and the Advanced Railroad Technology Group.

Whether you want to explore issues facing the public officials who caucus in buildings just blocks from campus or master international relations, political science students receive broad exposure to the discipline while gaining an understanding about how politics, government and governance shape the world and its quality of citizenship.  

As a political science major, you will be selecting courses from fields such as American politics, comparative politics, international relations, public administration and policy, and political theory while also developing one or two individualized areas of interest.

You will learn how to research the answers to important questions related to politics, political values and public policy. You will benefit from a wide variety of course offerings and have the opportunity to complete a public service internship to gain hands-on experience.

The goal of this one-year graduate program is to inspire entrepreneurial-minded science and engineering students to take leaderships roles in product design in large organizations and embark on new business ventures. The program includes an integrated curriculum, new venture creation projects, an innovation immersion module, and is taught by a blend of academic faculty and experienced entrepreneurs and investors from the private sector.

The M.S. degree is an academic research degree, which may be tailored to individual interests and job market needs. This degree requires a minimum of 36 graduate hours and combines real-world problem solving and research skills with other technical, health and related skills to prepare effective environmental health researchers for the public and private sectors. M.S. program graduates are often employed within federal, state and local public health and environmental protection agencies, federal and state research laboratories, contract research laboratories, industry, consulting firms and universities.
