The Department of Marketing at the Moore School is widely acclaimed for its scholarly expertise in various facets of consumer psychology, marketing strategy, research methods, behavioral pricing and marketing communications. It offers an undergraduate concentration in marketing as well as two Ph.D. concentrations — consumer behavior and marketing analysis.

The Department of Marketing offers an undergraduate marketing major focusing on the process of planning and executing the development, pricing, distributions and promotion of services, products and ideas. The marketing major also covers the study of economic, cultural, demographic and attitudinal factors that influence demand for products and services.

During your studies, you’ll build expertise in solid mechanics, materials processes, smart materials, manufacturing automation, concurrent engineering and other in-demand fields.

As a public relations major, you will develop strong writing and account management skills through interactive classes and extensive writing assignments. You'll learn how to create campaigns, write press releases and manage events as you develop your public relations acumen. You will work collaboratively with your classmates and be encouraged to participate activities like The Carolina Agency, our student-run advertising and public relations agency. You also have the opportunity to earn academic credit by participating in supervised internships. And as a senior in your capstone experience, you will create a comprehensive public relations campaign for an actual client. These real-life experiences will help prepare you for entry-level positions upon graduation.

We were the first major university to create a separate department for the study of sport and entertainment management in a business curriculum. As a national leader, we continue to offer innovative academic programs to prepare you for your role in this exciting field.

Our challenging coursework will provide you a thorough grounding in the economics, accounting, finance and marketing aspects of the sport and entertainment industries.

Two required internships in your chosen field will allow you to enter the industry with exceptional knowledge and professional preparation. The Women’s and Gender Studies Program at the University of South Carolina promotes an understanding of the experiences of women and other underrepresented groups through a complete program of teaching, research, and service to the University, the local community, the state, the nation and the global community. Through its research mission, the program reconceptualizes knowledge, creates new knowledge, and reinterprets existing knowledge through the lens of gender and the prism of diversity. As companies face ever-increasing challenges around the globe, risk management and insurance become even more important to a business. This major focuses on the methods of developing financial protection against loss with emphasis on insurance principles, solving risk management problems and socioeconomic security programs.

As a risk management and insurance major, you will develop cutting-edge business knowledge and develop a strong foundation in liberal arts and sciences. You will also gain global opportunities, cultural awareness and language appreciation. At the university, you will benefit from continuously updated technology, an award-winning faculty, a team environment, field trips to leading industries and service-learning opportunities. Through internships, you will have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the field.

Majors in this field must satisfactorily complete a minimum of 100 semester hours of academic work plus an intensive clinical training program where they receive specific training in one or more areas of emphasis within cardiovascular diagnostics: invasive, noninvasive, and vascular specialties. The first year will focus on the general education requirements of the Carolina Core and the College which include courses in English, mathematics, foreign language, behavioral sciences, history and freshmen level chemistry and biology. The major courses are completed over the next two years and include courses in cell biology, genetics, anatomy, physiology, biochemistry, and organic chemistry. Students are expected to complete eight hours in entry-level physics, plus four hours in a major level biology or chemistry course plus one or two electives to bring their total credits to 100 hours. The intensive clinical training program replaces the cognate requirement of the College.

The B.A. in Environmental Studies degree incorporates critical social, economic, policy, communications and/or humanities components that are not within the B.S. degree. The curriculum prepares students to address complex environmental problems requiring knowledge and understanding from multiple social and science disciplines that are framed in an environmental context. Students learn to make sound analyses and judgments about interdisciplinary environmental challenges and to seek and develop sustainable solutions that productively integrate social and economic needs with scientific and technical understanding.

Environmental Studies majors may combine coursework in sustainability, anthropology, political science, geography, history, economics, business, media arts and journalism to create an individually tailored curriculum relative to their career goals.

Impending environmental challenges include climate change, increasing drought and other extreme weather events and their impacts on infrastructure and food, energy and water supply, loss of biodiversity, increases in infectious disease, and invasive species. Environmental scientists may find themselves conducting field research to quantify such issues, while environmental studies majors may use their skills to incorporate that data into policy, advocacy and sustainable business practices.

Our chemical engineering curriculum provides a strong foundation in the core areas of chemical engineering and prepares you for employment in industry or for graduate school. It integrates the study of engineering, chemistry, physics, computer modelling, health and safety. Optional concentrations allow you to specialize in an area of interest.

Weekly composition seminars include analysis and discussion between students and guest composers, performers and conductors, open rehearsals and visits by artists from other disciplines. Students profit from frequent visits by noted guest composers.

You also benefit from our rich musical resources, including two advanced computer music studios and our extensive music library collection. You are encouraged to take advantage of the diverse resources throughout the university and to collaborate with artists in other fields.

At the end of each term, student composers present their work at the New Voices concert, open to the public. This student-produced concert series is designed to stimulate compositional activity and educate composers in practical matters of concert production, publicity and artistic collaboration.
