The Music History degree places musical trends, composers and individual musical works within historical, philosophical and social contexts. This combination both enlivens the understanding of musical works and broadens our values regarding what kinds of music we should listen to, compose, support or perform. Music composition at University of the Pacific is a fully immersive and broad major which will position you well to navigate this ever-evolving field of music. You will spend extensive time writing works for a variety of ensembles, learning a broad range of compositional techniques and honing your own compositional voice. You will compose for solo instruments, small ensembles, voice, chorus, percussion, digital media and larger musical forces such as orchestra and band. Specialized studies in orchestration, contemporary performance techniques, electronic music and film scoring will add crucial skills to your creative tool kit.

Media X is where the arts and technology intersect in the world of traditional, digital and emerging media.

Our innovative program encourages you to explore the production, performance, marketing, analysis and management of media. You will be prepared for a dynamic workplace where agile thinkers and broad skill sets are rewarded.

We collaborate with local small business and non-profits to provide you with signature assignments that may include logo, web and software design, shooting commercials and PSAs, as well as developing marketing plans and advertising campaigns using social media and other forms of digital outreach. Other hands-on assignments may include theater, film, and digital media productions, curatorial work, content-engineering, sound engineering, academic research and industry case studies. Media X provides you with the full complement of applied learning opportunities across these rapid growth areas.

The goal of the health, exercise and sport sciences program is to examine how movement-based physical activities, exercise and sport contribute to the quality of human life. We do this from a wide range of perspectives including biology, chemistry, psychology, sociology, business, education and philosophy to ensure that you are able to conceptualize and analyze health and human movement in a holistic manner.

The Music Performance major offers you an opportunity to study the fundamental principles of your chosen instrument through a broad range of pedagogical approaches that culminate in the holistic performance of a broad range of literature. Our faculty are professional musicians and educators experienced in all facets of performance. Students have the opportunity to perform in master classes, solo recitals and in a wide range of ensembles including band, orchestra, jazz, choir, opera, contemporary and chamber music.

The emphasis in all chemistry classes is to provide a thorough understanding of basic chemical concepts and to develop the competence in how to apply these concepts in a logical fashion to solve real world problems. Students can choose among a variety of degree programs designed to meet a range of career goals.

The Master of Science in Engineering Science (MSES) program is designed to strengthen students' technical, analytical, and professional breadth and depth. All students receiving an MSES degree will complete a set of core courses that covers the broader subjects of research and analysis. Students are allowed admission to the MSES program after completing their bachelor's degree. Traditional MSES students may qualify for a graduate assistantship, which provides tuition and a living stipend.

University of the Pacific’s engineering management program prepares students for leadership roles in today’s global workforce as engineers, managers and educators. Program graduates are prepared to pursue advanced-level studies or enter professional practice in a wide array of different industries, positions and projects.

The engineering management program is designed to provide students flexibility while providing a curriculum that integrates project and system engineering courses with courses within concentration areas; such as, civil or mechanical engineering. Alongside a faculty advisor, students develop a plan of study based on their goals. With 30% of the curriculum being electives, this major is a gateway to many career paths and opportunities.

The world of bioengineering, also known as biomedical engineering, has expanded immensely and continues to grow at a rapid pace, creating new opportunities for engineers who have knowledge of biological sciences, chemistry and physical systems.

Pacific is one of the first universities in the country to offer a Bachelor of Science in Bioengineering degree. Students in the program explore biomechanical, bioelectrical, biotransport and biomaterial topics. Within the bioengineering program there is a specialized pathway that supports pre-health and pre-medical students as they complete the requirements for admission to professional programs.

As a bioengineer, you can impact the quality of life of patients. Career options are wide-ranging and include medical research, design of medical instruments, biorobotics and even intellectual property law.

Students will select a career path that focuses on a study plan to meet their specific interests and career goals. There are three suggested "career paths." These include the bioelectrical, biomechanical and biomedical career paths.
