Church Music

All students desiring to pursue a Bachelor of Music, Bachelor of Music Education or Bachelor of Arts in Music degree must audition before members of the appropriate applied music faculty for acceptance into a music degree program. Students may pursue either a BM or BA in Church Music.
The Church Music major in the Bachelor of Music (BM) program at Baylor allows students to concentrate on one of three different emphases depending on their primary instrument: keyboard, instrumental or voice. The Bachelor of Arts program is designed in the liberal arts tradition and is a good fit for students who want a church music degree and who want to take additional courses outside of their major course of study.

The Secondary Education program prepares students to work in grades 7-12. Graduates of the Secondary Education program earn a Bachelor of Science in Education (B.S. Ed.) with certification in one subject area (listed below). Supplemental certification may be added in English as a Second Language.

This includes preventing illness by identifying and assessing hazardous agents, environmental sources and limiting exposures to chemical, physical and biological agents in air, water, soil, food and other environments that may impact human health. Environmental health professionals work to ensure safe water, food, air quality and workplace conditions, mitigate the impact of disasters and investigate and help control disease outbreaks. The Supply Chain Management major (designated as a pre-major) prepares students to manage activities involved in the creation of goods and services. Students develop the ability to apply problem-solving tools related to productivity improvement, quality control, production scheduling, and materials management.  They are also able to present an integrated top-management view of the entire operations function. Courses help students prepare for professional certifications in Supply Management (CPSM) and Project Management (PMP).  Available courses include:

Computer Science
The department of Computer Science offers a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science (BSCS) as well as a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in computer science. One of the strengths of the computer science program is the balance between theory and practice. Students graduating with a BSCS in Computer Science are schooled in upper-level computer science topics with a solid foundation in mathematics and the sciences. Within the BSCS degree, students select a general computer science or software engineering track. The software engineering track emphasizes the methods used to produce and maintain high-quality software in a systematic, controlled and efficient manner. Students who are acquiring their BA in computer science acquire a traditional liberal arts education with a solid set of core computer science courses.

Bioinformatics
Baylor's Bioinformatics undergraduate program was one of the first of its kind when it was created. The Bioinformatics major is a combination of computer science, life sciences, mathematics and statistics. The goal of the program is to produce students competent across multiple disciplines. Upon graduation, they should know enough computer science ot know what is computable and enough of life science to know what needs to be computed. Available courses include:

The Communication Specialist major is a combination of studies in digital media and speech communication. This program of study blends a leadership/management/organizational communication focus with the development of expertise in digital media production. This major is appropriate for students with a wide array of career aspirations but is most appropriate for those intending to take advantage of communication expertise in a corporate career track. Courses available include:

Art History is the study of various mediums of art and their changes over time. Studied mediums include painting, sculpture, graphic arts and other visual forms. The histories of these mediums are compared alongside political, religious, and cultural shifts. Students learn to examine and scrutinize artwork through spoken and written word. Coursework also includes the study of the impact history and art have had on one another. Course topics include:

• Contemporary Art
• 19th-21st Century European and American Art

The Albritton Art Institute focuses on 19th and 20th century European and American artists. Each semester, the institute provides fully funded field studies that allow students to observe and analyze artwork firsthand. Past destinations include New York City, London, Chicago, Vienna, and Venice.

The small size of the art history programs fosters a high degree of individual interaction with the faculty and a serious intellectual atmosphere. The fact that the art history faculty are both active scholars and strong teachers provide unique opportunities for Baylor's art history majors to develop significant experience and expertise both inside and outside the classroom.
