The Child and Family Studies (CFS) program at Baylor University focuses on the development of individuals and families as they grow and change. Students in this major study the dynamics of the life span (prenatal through late adulthood). This program offers four concentrations specializing in a content area, including:

• Child Development
• Child Life
• Family Life Education
• Pre-Occupational Therapy

The program is designed to prepare students for a variety of careers opportunities in hospitals, clinics, adoption agencies, youth ministries, family planning centers, social services, youth correctional facilities or as teachers. It also offers the opportunity to pursue certification as either a Child Life Specialist or a Certified Family Life Educator. No matter what career path is chosen, students will become professionals who practice critical thinking, self-reflection and scientific inquiry. We desire that they know and use ethical guidelines and professional standards related to our field.

French
The French major prepares graduates to speak, read and write the French language fluently. French is often chosen as a minor or second major for students interested in international business, diplomacy, government or law. The French language is a useful foundation for any international career.  It is the only language besides English that is spoken on five continents.  Available courses include:

Education - Secondary Physical Sciences
The Secondary Education program prepares students to work in grades 7-12. Graduates of the Secondary Education program earn a Bachelor of Science in Education (B.S. Ed.) with certification in one subject area (listed below). Supplemental certification may be added in English as a Second Language.

The Marketing major (designated as a pre-major) is a comprehensive study of promoting, pricing and placing a product. Marketing students can choose an emphasis in Sports, Strategy and Sales, Nonprofit and Social Enterprise Marketing or tailor their own marketing emphasis by selecting any three marketing courses beyond what is required.Available courses include:

A degree in Marketing qualifies graduates for many occupations like Sales and Customer Service, Product Management, and Marketing Research. Other students find work in Advertising, Sales Promotion, Event Marketing, and Purchasing.  The marketing department works with students to place them in internships to enhance students' resumes and provide experience in the market place.

Social Work
The Social Work program (designated as a pre-major) is accredited by the Council on Social Work Education. At the Diana R. Garland School of Social Work, students learn about human dignity and the need for justice. They also learn about caring as the foundation for effective change and service that transforms lives and communities. Social Work is a profession that prepares practitioners to empower individuals. It also prepares them to advocate for social justice in organizations and communities. Coursework combines a thorough liberal arts education with field experience with community professionals. Biochemistry
The Biochemistry major is designed to provide a firm foundation in biochemistry and prepare students for careers in health-related disciplines, medical research or biotechnology. The Bachelor of Arts degree in Biochemistry is a good choice for students who wish to attend a professional school in medicine or dentistry. The Church Music major is available in the Bachelor of Music (BM) degree or Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree. All students desiring to pursue a Bachelor of Music, Bachelor of Music Education or Bachelor of Arts in Music degree must audition before members of the appropriate applied music faculty for acceptance into a music degree program. Students may pursue either a BM or BA in Church Music.
The Church Music major in the Bachelor of Music (BM) program at Baylor allows students to concentrate on one of three different emphases depending on their primary instrument: keyboard, instrumental or voice. Education - Special Education
The Special Education major prepares candidates to teach students to teach students with exceptional learning needs, from early childhood through 12th grade. Field experiences focus on students with varying levels of disability, ranging from mild to severe. The Special Education major offers two different undergraduate certificate options.

The first is an All-Level Special Education degree plan which prepares participants to only teach students with exceptional learning needs. These students range from early childhood through 12th grade.

The Special Education Supplemental plan prepares participants to teach general education to students ranging from early childhood through sixth grade. The second plan also prepares participants to teach students with exceptional learning needs. These students spend the majority of the school day in a general classroom.

Economics
The Economics major is offered in three different degree programs, as a Bachelor of Business Administration (designated as a pre-major), a Bachelor of Arts (BA), or a Bachelor of Science (BS). Each degree program is a slightly different variation of the core curriculum based on the degree requirement differences between the College of Arts and Sciences and the Business School. Choosing an Economics major in the Business School (BBA) provides the opportunity to take classes targeted toward four different career positions: consultant, public agency analyst, international economist or corporate business economist. Other possibilities for students graduating with an Economics degree include taking a position as a product risk analyst or risk and control advisor. A Bachelor of Arts in Economics is ideal for students wishing to attend graduate or law school while the Bachelor of Science in Economics is ideal for those wishing to work in the medical or scientific field.

Mechanical Engineering
The Mechanical Engineering major (designated as a pre-major) helps students build a strong engineering foundation by studying thermal/fluids, materials/mechanical systems and design. In addition to foundational mechanical engineering courses, students can further specialize by choosing electives that will improve their ability to apply fundamentals and to design machines and energy systems.
