The Music History and Literature major enables students to take advantage of both the professional applied music setting within the School of Music and the interdisciplinary, humanistic environment of a major research university. Journalism
The Department of Journalism, Public Relations and New Media educates students in writing, editing, photography and public relations for written and graphic communication. There are three sequences (tracks) available. Each sequence maintains the same required Journalism Core and highlights different areas within the field of journalism.

The News-Editorial sequence focuses on developing reporting, writing and editing skills. The Public Relations sequence emphasizes the importance of branding and public image. The New Media sequence includes both advertising skills (copywriting, research design and media planning) and photojournalism that focuses more on the visual components of journalism. Communication Sciences and Disorders is a major that trains students in the processes of communication and speaking. This includes education in identifying and treating various disorders of communication and speech. In this field, professionals seek to diagnose and treat a variety of disorders, improving communication while also improving quality of life. Baylor's major in Communication Sciences and Disorders (CSD) emphasizes speech-language pathology and offers comprehensive education in the fundamental principles of the field. Theatre Arts
The Theatre Arts program provides classroom instruction and experience outside the classroom as well as holistic education of the theatre and allows room for focus in a variety of disciplines. The required hours are ideal for a student desiring to include a minor or secondary major. Courses available include:

The department produces about 8 full productions each year. The productions vary from Shakespeare to pop musicals. All productions are performed in full by theatre students. The majority of sets and scenery are also created by the students. This hands-on experience develops the participants’ skill and experience.

The Theatre Department also offers a summer study abroad program every other year. This programs gives students the opportunity to experience theatre in different cultures. Graduates can choose different routes after the completion of this degree. Some go to graduate school and others go to work in the entertainment industry.

Anthropology
As a discipline, anthropology studies human diversity across time and space, attempting to understand the human past, present, and future using tools and techniques from various sub-fields like biological anthropology, archaeology, and sociocultural anthropology. It utilizes a comparative approach between people/populations and among different species to understand the forces that have shaped their ways of life.

We aim to educate students to address real-world problems through a combination of classroom learning, seminars and hands-on field and laboratory research opportunities. This can include, for example, examining fossil casts or modern human bones, studying at the zoo or in villages in developing countries, and digging for artifacts in the fields or just facts in the library.Our faculty pursues research in disease diagnostics and other biomarkers, Global and One Health, ecological anthropology, forensic anthropology, fossil excavation, modern Mayan cultures, DNA analyses, GIS, and both historic and prehistoric archaeology. Research sites include Central and Latin America, the Caribbean, West, East, and South Africa, near Eastern Mediterranean, and Texas. All of these projects offer excellent opportunities for students to participate in primary research working alongside their professors.

Russian
The Russian language is used throughout the world and is one of the five official languages of the United Nations. As such, a Russian major is beneficial for those wishing to work in international affairs. The major includes studying the Russian language, culture and history. Students become fluent in written and spoken Russian. Available courses include:

• Russian Conversation and Composition

Russian is also available as a minor or secondary major for those pursuing a different field of study. Graduates with Russian degrees often pursue graduate school, teach, or work for international corporations.

The Statistics program is designed to provide a balance between statistical theory and applications of statistical methods. It helps students discern how principles are applied to the collection, analysis, presentation and interpretation of data. With an emphasis being placed on acquiring research, consulting and teaching skills, the curriculum is applicable to biomedical, industrial and academic careers. Available courses include:

The Film and Digital Media major (designated as a pre-major) gives students a holistic understanding of media-based entertainment. Students learn the creative process of storytelling and the technical aspects of film, video, audio and new media production. The program also includes courses in screenwriting, media effects and media management. Courses available include:

• Film and Video Direction
• Production Methods
• Broadcast Writing
• Media and Society

Students are prepared for a variety of careers in radio, television, cable and allied fields, and for careers in which knowledge of and skills in electronic and film communication are an integral part of professional activity. They will also have the opportunity to showcase their work through the Black Glasses Film Festival which exhibits the best student work in both film-making and screenwriting.
