Study French language, literature and culture and learn to communicate with more than 200 million French speakers in more than 50 countries.

French majors are encouraged to take advantage of our study abroad programs to grow linguistically and expand their cultural understanding of French-speaking societies. DePaul sponsors two study abroad programs in Paris: one at Alliance Française and another at the Institute for the International Education of Students. We also have an exchange program at Sciences Po, an elite institution in the social sciences.

For French majors interested in pursuing a career in education, the French department partners with the College of Education to award teaching degrees at the middle school and high school levels.

While living in Chicago, you’ll have opportunities to explore French festivals and lectures, dine at French restaurants and see the work of French artists.

The Health Sciences major program will prepare you for a variety of healthcare professions by combining biomedical instruction with an understanding of how societal factors impact health. Whether you want to become a healthcare practitioner, administrator or policy-maker, you’ll learn how to solve health-related problems as part of a team.

As a Health Sciences major, you’ll choose one of two concentrations. The Bioscience concentration focuses on the scientific elements of an individual’s health, preparing you for a career in dentistry, medicine, nursing, pharmacy or physical therapy. The Bioscience - Accelerated Program is for qualified Health Sciences majors in the BioScience concentration who have been accepted into an accelerated 3+ College of Science and Health pre-professional program in conjunction with Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science (RFUMS). The Public Health Sciences concentration focuses on understanding the health care needs of populations, preparing you for a career in community health, health care administration, health communication and public health.

DePaul’s master’s in Public Policy (MPP) gives you the skills, experience and analytical tools to help shape governmental policies that influence our local, regional and national agendas. You’ll also learn how to advance policies that are beneficial to urban communities and to advocate for those who are marginalized or at risk.

Using an applied, hands-on approach, you’ll focus on

The Master of Public Administration (MPA) will prepare you for a leadership position within the public sector. You’ll develop the critical management skills you’ll need to succeed in your public service career, including:

• Public policy design and analysis

International Public Management Concentration
Students intending to work in international organizations require a special understanding of how public and non-profit institutional structures and managerial processes vary around the world. This concentration emphasizes the interdependence of government and non-government organizations (NGOs), while addressing a variety of management, ethics, and policy issues.

DePaul’s MFA in Creative Writing and Publishing will prepare and empower you to write a novel or memoir, or a collection of poetry or stories while at DePaul. You’ll work across genres under the mentorship of distinguished authors and poets. With courses in Copyediting, Book Publicity, Book Design, Teaching Creative Writing, and Teaching English you’ll have the choice of a career in publishing or teaching. The Creative Writing and Publishing MFA culminates with a required master’s thesis of publishable quality.

As part of the Grace School of Applied Diplomacy at DePaul, our Master of Applied Diplomacy program unites traditional and non-traditional approaches to the field of diplomacy. Here, we know that the work of diplomacy is not limited to members of the foreign service, but practiced by members of non-governmental organizations, business people, scientists, and community organizers.

Global Public Health
The Diplomacy and Global Public Health concentration provides students with a foundation for applying the tools and understanding of diplomatic practices to mediation, conflict resolution, advocacy and leadership in the field of international public health. Students will have the opportunity to place the study and practice of diplomacy into conversation with the disciplines of behavior theory, health care, forced migration and public policy.

The Secondary Education program prepares you to teach 9th through 12th grade in a variety of urban and suburban education settings, including public and private high schools. You can graduate with a State of Illinois license to teach designated subject-area content (listed below). The program also provides you an opportunity to receive a Diploma Year Program Award (IB certification) to teach in International Baccalaureate schools world-wide.

As part of the secondary education major, you’ll learn educational theories and effective teaching practices, including how to design and implement curriculum; participate in extensive field experiences at multiple schools, and student-teach for 10 weeks.

In DePaul’s flexible master’s in Writing and Publishing, you have the unique opportunity to study across genres and develop and revise your work under the mentorship of acclaimed authors and poets. Choose from courses in poetry, fiction and non-fiction (travel, magazine, memoir, science writing, personal essay, etc). Professional internships give you the opportunity to join Chicago’s vibrant literary scene—and to start a rewarding creative career.

In DePaul’s Cyber-Physical Systems Engineering program, you’ll learn about engineering systems that integrate physical processes, computation and control. You’ll gain an understanding of how cyber-physical systems are used to manage electric grids and other infrastructures, home utilities and appliances, robots, autonomous vehicles, environmental sensor networks, traffic control, smart toys and Internet of Things (IoT) systems.

As you work toward your cyber engineering degree, you’ll learn how to:

• Analyze a simple physical process and develop a mathematical model that describes it
• Develop a feedback control system that controls a simple physical process
• Solve a computational problem by selecting appropriate data structures and algorithms
• Select the hardware (sensors, actuators, controllers, etc.) for a Cyber-Physical System
• Develop the embedded system software that manages Cyber-Physical System hardware
• Assess and improve the reliability and security of a simple Cyber-Physical System
• Integrate feedback control, algorithms, and hardware to implement a Cyber-Physical System

The Cyber-Physical Systems Engineering program takes on a multi-disciplinary approach – you’ll gain a broad and deep foundation in computer science and software development.
