Work Permit USA

Optional Practical Training or OPT is a period during which students, who have completed their degrees in the USA, are permitted to work for one year on a student visa by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). OPT allows students to work for up to 3 years and develop real-world skills to survive in the competitive jobs market.

It is temporary employment for a period of 12-months that is directly related to the major area of study of an F-1 student. Eligible students have the option to apply for OPT employment authorization before completing their academic studies and/or after completing their academic studies.

A student can participate in three types of Optional Practical Training (OPT):

  1. Pre-Completion OPT: This is temporary employment provided to F-1 students before completion of their course of study.
  2. Post-Completion OPT: This is temporary employment available to F-1 students after completing their course of study.
  3. 24 Month STEM Extension: Students enrolled in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) courses can a 24-month extension after their initial Post-Completion OPT authorization.

The Secondary Education program prepares you to teach 9th through 12th grade in a variety of urban and suburban education settings, including public and private high schools. You can graduate with a State of Illinois license to teach designated subject-area content (listed below). The program also provides you an opportunity to receive a Diploma Year Program Award (IB certification) to teach in International Baccalaureate schools world-wide.

As part of the secondary education major, you’ll learn educational theories and effective teaching practices, including how to design and implement curriculum; participate in extensive field experiences at multiple schools, and student-teach for 10 weeks.

As an Italian major, you will study the language, literature and culture of the Italian-speaking world. You will learn how the Italian influence extends throughout the world in art, music, literature, fashion and cuisine.

Chicago is home to vibrant Italian and Italian-American communities, providing you with opportunities to visit the Little Italy neighborhood, dine at Italian restaurants and attend Italian cultural events, all while developing proficiency in Italian language.

Take advantage of DePaul’s study abroad program at Italiaidea in Rome or at Università Cattolica in Milan. We also offer short-term study abroad programs in Milan, Bologna, Parma and Moderna titled “Italy: Food and Fashion.”

In the Bachelor of Arts (BA) and Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) in Art, Media, and Design programs, you will expand your artistic potential through a broad-based education in studio art, photography and media art, or graphic art.

Learn the history of and experience the creative possibilities of visual culture through a project-based curriculum in art-making. The programs emphasize fundamental artistic concepts through problem solving and experimentation in studio courses.

You’ll work closely with faculty who are practicing artists in dedicated art studios on campus.

As you work on your art and design degree, you’ll spend time in photography dark rooms, wood and metal workshops, and in studios in the following art areas: sculpture, printmaking, video, photography, digital photography, graphic art, painting and drawing.

As a DePaul Film and Television major, you’ll choose between two degrees: a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree or a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) in Film and Television.

Our BA in Film and Television program will provide you with a generalist approach to filmmaking and tv production by teaching you how to use the latest digital technology and examining classic cinema narrative theory and aesthetics.

Our BFA in Film and Television program emphasizes the technical aspects of media production and explores the relationship between cinema production technologies and creative artistic expression. You’ll choose one of 11 filmmaking concentrations.

The industrial design degree program will teach you how to hone your aesthetic design skills in order to develop prototypes for consumer and industrial products. You’ll take technical and mathematics courses from which you will learn analytical competence needed to successfully develop your prototyping ability.

As an Industrial Design major, you will become a member of DePaul’s makerspace community and work alongside award-winning faculty in the Idea Realization Lab (IRL) or IRL2 — DePaul’s interdisciplinary 4,500-square-foot campus makerspaces (located on the Loop and Lincoln Park campuses, respectively). In this community, you will learn to design within the constraints of what is practical and possible through the use of several rapid prototyping technologies.

Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry

As a Biochemistry major, you’ll learn the fundamentals of chemical and biochemical theory and practice through scientific investigation, laboratory experience and research.

The MA in Animation degree provides a combination of artistic and technical training that prepares students for a future in 3D character animation, traditional animation, computer game art, or visual effects.

Technical Artist
The Technical Artist Concentration prepares students for a range of technical roles, from the complex jobs of riggers, next generation modelers and motion capture artists to the hybrid specialization of the Technical Artist. A game industry Technical Artist is an art department member who serves as a bridge between art and engineering. The TA needs to understand the language of both fields and act as a translator between the areas. In the film and television CGI animation and VFX industries the Technical Artist is more commonly referred to as a Technical Director or Technical Animator. The TA in these fields shares many of the core responsibilities (pipeline, troubleshooting) and animation technical skills as the game TA.
